working mornings vs afternoons
 

if you can choose between 2 shifts doing the same work ft. which would you perfere. 7-3 30 or 3 30 to 11 30

i do shift work that rotates from 12am-8am, 8am-4pm, and 4pm-12am. They all have their pros and cons.

Like most other people here, I would choose the 7am-330pm mainly because you have free time to do things after. But you also have to factor in other things as well. For example, are you a morning person? Will you be able to wake up early on a regular basis? With that being said, are you able to go to bed early as well? Other things to consider is how far is your commute? If it's far, you will have to worry about traffic which can be a pain sometimes especially if you have to sit through traffic 5 days a week.

With that being said, working in the afternoon will almost guarantee you going home with no traffic on the road. Also there are usually more people working during the day than in the afternoon, so if you're not a "people" person, it means less bullshit you have to take from people or just dealing with them in general.

One thing I did notice when working afternoons is that time seems to be more rushed. Because I do get home later when working afternoons, I tend to stay up a least a couple of hours before going to bed. Say you wake up at 10am, it's hard squeeze in time to do things. I can barely squeeze in doing housework, eat lunch and a workout before I have to get ready for work again. When I don't have anything to do before my afternoon shift, I tend to just hang around at home for the most part because you know you have to work again later in the afternoon and you always have to watch the time so you can factor in driving time and just getting ready for work in general.

Work on call on a board. Get all sorts of shifts. You learn to not hate any one more than the others eventually...

Who the hell am I kidding. I hate graveyards. I'd rather have a 9-5 shift.

I prefer to work mornings, it leaves you to do much more when you get off work.

I used to hate mornings, but as I get older I find that I enjoy waking up earlier to go to work. Then again, I work for myself so i can go to work anytime thats right

I generally work 7:00-3:30 Mon-Fri and have done so for probably the last 12 years. I have a friend that works 6:00-3:00 Mon-Fri but gets every other Friday off because of the 9 hour work day. He has the perfect hours IMO.

Lots of factors. At my old job eBay the first 2 years I worked either 3-1130 or 5-130. The last 2 years I worked all morning shifts.

The first 2 years working night shifts were perfect for me at the time. First of all I was single during that time and thus didn't need to worry about not having time with the gf. Second of all the friends I hang around with were all the type that wouldn't even go out until like 10pm or later. This made it perfect because when I got off that's when all of our nights would start.

Also working late shifts you can do shiet you need to do before work if needed such as banking, haircut, groceries etc.

Day shifts of course are the opposite. You have a more normal schedule or some word say more of a life.

Also depending on what work you do the day vs night shift could mean one being way less busier then the other.

In the end I think both shifts are great and both certainly have their pros and cons. Usually one shift is decided based on what your needs in life are at the time. What do your friends work? Got a SO? Do you have family to worry about? etc

yeah morning for sure. you know why? the first 2 - 3 hours are a breeeeeze, they go by so fast because you're sleepy haha. the last hour, hour and a half, are the worst though because you anticipate it. best to just keep working, get your mind off time usually helps, sometimes it's inevitable and you just dread the wait. if you work mid-shifts, you're days ruined. you wake up, get ready head to work, sleep, wake up to do the same thing all over again. that's just brutal. with morning shifts you can finish, head out and chill with your friends until 11 - 12 go home. wake up feeling shit tired, but suck it up because by the time you slowly start to wake up you've got like 4 hours left lol.

depending on the job, night shifts are generally more slack.

It really depends on what stage you are in your life. When your young, it doesn't impact as much whether day/night. If you have a family, then obviously you would want to work day time if you could because, you need to spend that time with the family/kids after work in the evening.

7:30 - 3:00

3:30 - 11:30 give you no night life especially on a friday.

i work 8:15 - whenever we're done, usually 4 - 5 in the morning, 6 days a week... now that sucks.

Morning shifts. Working afternoons usually reduces your life to eat/sleep/work during the week. I don't know how some people are used to afternoons unless it was required of the workplace.

i work 6am-2pm or 7am-3pm

i have the rest of the day to do whatever...

I'm starting a new job on Monday, my shifts are 11 - 7:30pm. If it was up to me I would take the morning shift.

evening shifts are the best for students

7-3pm is better...

i like afternoons because theres no pressure on us. no supervisors or foremans = no hassles. i work from 230-10, its only a 7 1/2 hour shift, but we get paid for 8. because im good at what i do, all my work is usually done between 830-9, which means i have an hour to do whatever the hell i want. as others have said, you can still get a lot done in the morning before you go to work, theres no line ups anywhere because everyone else is at work.

i guess i don't mind 7-3.. leaves me with time to do stuff at nite.. but it's so hard to get out of bed in the morning lol especially in the winter when it's still fuking dark haha

i've worked nights for two straight years now. sure, there are pros for working nights but the biggest problem is that the rest of the world revolves around a daytime schedule and for the most part, your group of friends will too. this means that you miss out on a lot of stuff because you're always stuck at work.

choose daytime.

I would chose the 7 to 3:30pm shift.

I usually only need about 5 hours of sleep assuming I get up at 6 I can get to bed around 11:30pm or so. Not the mention since you get off at 3:30pm you can take a nap after work so you can go to sleep around 12lish to 1am if you really want to.

Depends on your work. For the job I am doing now, there is usually little to no work from 7am to around 8:30am so you can take short naps in between.

As mention before working morning shift time goes by really fast.
