FD is a masterpiece, I owned a 94 FD for a short while.

But I'll tell you one thing that's fact, when you start putting whacky overly aggressive body kits on the beautiful OEM lines of the FD like your friend has, you are tainting the most beautiful part of the car, which happen to be the lines and curves of it.
and in my opinion the FD is the most beautiful looking car to ever come from the land of the rising sun

look how beautiful stock looks, sure this is the Efini sport edition, but still OEM.....

I agree completely; I personally am a big fan of the factory Spirit-R, the very last batch and cream of the crop of RX-7, that thing is just sex on wheels!!

Death2Theft 09-25-2010 09:13 PM

Wow with small gold mesh wheels like that it looks like an identity crisis between mexican low rider and with the big spoiler a ricer. The only legendary thing about this is how it should be in the legendary hall of shame thread.

PJ 09-25-2010 09:33 PM

wow
well done

Boostslut 09-25-2010 11:32 PM

Great pictures, but personally not feeling the car. No disrespect, its just my opinion. I'm an OEM kinda person.

Not everyone liked how my car looked either.

I honestly don't know a single car enthusiast whos ever had anything bad to say about the RX-7's interior. Though plenty have bashed the rotary engine

I think he was talking about the spoiler on the rx7 in the OP

6insomnia9 09-26-2010 12:52 AM

Wow that is one sick clean ride..

124Y 09-26-2010 01:15 AM

I know the owner; pretty sure he didn't mod the car himself and he bought it as-is.

tofu1413 09-26-2010 02:25 AM

i remember seeing the car at RS summer meet...

I like FD's... but to me, they come in two tastes: either have a nice form (clean look) or have a complete functional look (wide kit, GT wing, diffuser)

for the form, the late model Spirit Rs are beautiful cars to look at. as for the earlier cars, I have no idea why i never really liked the front bumper.. thats about it.

a nice example, early type RZ with mazdaspeed kit w/ super rare mazdaspeed MS02 wheels

and then theres the wide body street cars w/ GT wings:

either or. haha. I find it very weird look for a regular bodied RX7 with a huge GT wing on it... seems.. not right and unproportional.

i like these one offs too:

I usually don't like body kits that dramatically change the appearance of a car, but the veilside fortune for the rx-7 is pretty nice.

haha oh ok, yea he's onto something with that comment, but I don't think the car belongs in hall of shame thread. Few misses with the body kit and wheel choice, but it's allright.
I wouldn't put any blame on the owner for the way it looks, looks like he just imported it in it's current state.
I would personally start parting out and go another route though.

Mugen yea I know damn near everyone is gonna pick the NSX for the prettiest Japanese car, and yea it is by most standards. But I can't help my bias man :D I had an FD for a while and it was the first car I truly fell in love with, it's what kick started me and turned me into an automotive enthusiast. And I owe my taste in modifying to the clean lines of the FD, you see how cleanly my G is modded.

Lowoffset yea from a performance standpoint you got the list right, but as far as aesthetics it's the opposite. The R34 and Supra have this muscular look to them, they were designed to look mean like japanese muscle cars or something. The NSX and FD on the other hand are all about pretty lines and smooth flowing design that's just universally pretty.
The muscular/aggressive design is something that some people don't find appealing, for example the new R35 GTR, it's a love and hate, half the people hate the way it looks the other half love it. I find that the exotic crowd doesn't like it at all, and the import crowd loves it. And this has nothing to do with the fact we drive different cars, I think it's just what each crowd is used too.. exotic guys are used to smooth flowing sexy lines, while the import crowd is accustomed to the R34 GTR so naturally we love the R35

hey Revolution, forgot to tell you I like your pictures they came out great

Chin.Up 09-26-2010 02:11 PM

Nice pics man.

But I think you're blacks in the pics are abit too dark. Not showing much details on the car itself anymore.

underscore 09-26-2010 02:22 PM

^ same here, all I can see is some gold rims, taillights, and the outline of an FD.

Cillu 09-26-2010 02:50 PM

Them pics are looking good! Although I still find the NSX sexier.

flagella 09-26-2010 02:57 PM

NSX is by far my most favorite Japanese car. Must admit though, RX7 has very beautiful lines and its design is simply timeless.
