Removal stickers/decals from painted surfaces

Hey I bought a black 4runner and there are 2 decals on the tail gate I'm trying to get off! There is no way to pick them off with my finger nails (I tried briefly). I'm considering using a heat gun or a blow drier and using something plastic (a guitar pick comes to mind) to try to scrape them off. But is there a chemical I can use to make the job easier and hopefully not destroy the paint? I also need a good leather cleaner and conditioner, the previous owner had 2 kids and they did unspeakable things to the rear seats and carpet.

Thanks for the help. I'm guessing that stuff isn't safe to use on leather though? "Gummy Mess" describes the rear seats and carpet!

Try autoglym adhesive & tar remover

Tried Goo gone. Took a lot of elbow grease to get the sticker residue off.

Heat gun works best. Take you time to get the sticker warm. Try to pull off without stopping. That should keep the glue on the sticker.
