Memory Ram Timing Overclocked at Default Setting? I got a stick of Patriots 1333Mhz Ram with an a spec timing of 9-9-9-24. But for some reason, the ram are being run at 7-7-7-20 using the default / optimized setting in Bios. How do i lower the timing to stock? The bios has the option to set the timing to Auto, Both, DCT0 or DCT1. Anything but auto will open up another dozen of settings like CAS, TRCD, TRP, TWR, TWTR...etc etc and I have no idea how to adjust them properbly. Also, could the overclocked timing cause a few random errors in memtest? I ran the test for about 48 hours+ and it returned 3 errors. The bios also ran the ram at a default of 1.5v when the ram is rated at 1.65v, I just notice that and changed the dram to 1.63v, and I am running memtest again. It's been 10 hours so far and no errors. |
are you positive the sticks are running 1333mhz 7-7-7? they may have defaulted to 1066mhz, which would be why its running 7-7-7. The wrong voltage would definitely be why you had memtest errors, if you are not having any further errors i'd be inclined to leave it at 7-7-7 if they really are running 1333mhz. |
Somehow your bios is ignoring the SPD chip in the ram. If it's running at 7-7-7-20 and failing MemTest, then definitely you need to increase the timings a bit. But if it passes with increased voltage, then it should be fine. 7-7-7-20 is quite a bit faster than the original timings. If anything, just change the tRAS to 24. If that's not enough, increase the CAS back to 9. |

Sorry, I am somewhat of a noob.....So lower Mhz speed = faster timing? I didn't know these 2 thing affect one another... Should I leave the ram running at 1066Mhz or should I adj the FSB/Dram ratio so it runs at 1333Mhz? (this is on a Phenom X4 965) |
