Which 1tb HD?

Need some extra storage so I'm gonna pick up a new HD for my HTPC. Same price at $60 and same size 1TB.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 32MB Hard Drive OEM

OR

Western Digital WD10EARS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM

WD!, even though I'm using the Seagate 7200.12. Seagate slow like shit for some reason, but I use it for storage, so no biggie.

Green is good for storage, I have a 1.5TB green. It's not hot and it reads around 85mb/s

ok thanks!!! going with the WD.

Is the WD HD going to be to slow for the O/S?

I only use the HTPC for movies music and internet. No gaming.

Only when booting up. Greens are great for HTPC's becaus emost people leave them on 24/7.

I think it's more like:

WD Green: Low power, Quiet, Storage only
WD Black: Speed, Performance, reliability

Cause WD Black's come with 5 year warranty. :)

Seagate 7200.12

last time I did my HD research...7200.12 is a A LOT faster than WD Green, or Blue.

Actually quite a few benchmarks even show higher average read/write transfer rate than WD black..and the 7200.12 also runs cooler with less noise than WD black

I think seagate has gotten a very bad rep from their 7200.10/11 HD.
But I haven't heard or seen much complaint about the 7200.12 drive tho..

Sorry to bump this, but I was curious. Do you guys notice that Seagate drivers are notoriously noisy? I keep hearing it churn in the background.

My Hitachi is whisper quiet. If WDs are the quietest out there, I'll invest in 1 to replace this Seagate.

I have 2 WD's i think and they are very quiet. I've had a few Seagates before but eventually it gets noisy.
