HID no more DRL
 

Bought an 02 civic with HID lights. However DRL are now non existent and when I flick on highbeam only one side works. Foglights were also installed. Can anyone explain to me why my DRL arent working (I could care less about high beam).

DRL fuse might have been taken out? When I ran HIDs on my ek civic I pulled the fuse so the HIDs wouldn't be on all the time.

02 civics use a two filament bulb. When you install HID you either have:
-ONLY low beam
-low beam with halogen highbeam
-a motor that moves the bulb upwards simulating hibeam.

It depends which bulb you're using for HID. If you have highbeam on the one side is it HID or regular bulb?

If it is an HID hibeam the motor in the other bulb might not be working. (You wouldn't have DRL regardless as theres still only only one bulb in the housings)

If it is a normal halogen bulb then the other bulb is burnt out but you should still have DRL in the working hibeam side.

Put the original lighting back in. Solves all these problems, plus you won't get a ticket and a VI.

hey guys sorry for the late replies.

I looked under the wheel and found out that the fuse for the DRL had been pulled.

I popped a fuse into the slot and turned the car on. first thing I noticed was now a DRL showed up on my dash, and this awful noise coming from behind the glovebox. Kind of sounded like a stuck motor. The DRL indicator was also blinking rapidly.

Anyway i went ahead and tried the lights -- my driver side light for my DRL were working, but the passenger side was extremely dim. This was also the side that was showing no high beam when there was no fuse in. High beam for both sides worked with the fuse in. Note I did this all while that noise was going on.

And to reply to lexluther, what is a two filament bulb? I believe there's only one bulb in the housing. I hope the above can help you or someone troubleshoot my problem.

I am thinking about just getting rid of all this aftermarket light bs :mad:

that's the connector from the bulb to your ballast, ultimately powering your HID bulb.

just remove those and stick with stock since it's giving you so much trouble plus it's illegal and highly annoying to other drivers

So all this time the bulbs been disconnected? Is it safe to say my ballast hasn't been doing anything?

the buzzing noise from behind the glove box...It goes away when you turn on the headlights? If yes, it's a relay buzzing away (not the drl relay, but something related.)
Try re-soldering any the DRL relay circuit board. Look for any cracks in the soldering. Circuit board may be discolored around that area from the heat too. Common problem on these civics. It's above the driver's knee's beside the steering column

But i hear people pull out their DRL fuse because of issues with the HID. what're they talking about?

went ahead and did my soldering some time ago. Fixed my issues with the DRL. Common problem with the hondas apparently

Sorry, don't know much about these aftermarket HID's

A HID kit needs a minimum of 9 volts to run and a max of 16 volts.

If your vehicle's low beam is the DRL, HID's would need to be disabled because DRL has around 9 volts or less. This would cause your HID balasts to not fire up properly, causing flickering and shortens the life of balasts.

This is why people disable their DRL.

A way to run DRL with HID is to use a relay.
