Sparkplug Problem

So I had bad luck today.

I messed up a spark plug really badly. Can you guess how?

It messed me up pretty good too.

Please don't chuck your old spark plugs into the streets.

Tomorrow: getting laughed out of tire shops hoping they can patch it.

Friday: Ordering two new tires.

TOPEC 10-06-2010 09:31 PM

dont think that can be patched
thats more like a hole in ur tire than a puncture.

You've obviously not seen the size of the patches that are available now.

I guess I'll find out. The funny thing is that it's holding air, maybe a micro leak.

Anyone want to buy a studded tire for winter?

no i have not, but would u trust a big hole patched up by a thin piece of rubber? i sure wouldn't, especially considering what kind of tire the op has.

fliptuner 10-06-2010 11:55 PM

Depends. If it were a combination patch with a big enough stem, I might run it.

Red 5 10-07-2010 01:16 AM

Based on the tread depth of the photo, that tire needs to be replaced anyways.

Euro7r 10-07-2010 02:56 AM

Damn, what the fuck! Big ass hole, don't think it's patchable from the looks of it.

Phil@rise 10-07-2010 10:04 AM

That can be repaired. Not plugged reliably but it can be patched from the inside.

Leopold Stotch 10-07-2010 10:49 AM

lol i like how you first taped the area around it as to add the suspense and then you show us its in your tire completely changing the topic from "how the fuck did the spark plug melt like that?" to "how the fuck did that end up in your tire and you didn't die?"

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-07-2010 11:25 AM

LOL now thats something we dont see everyday

your sidewall rubber is aging, you barely have any treads left. You need new tires son

dark0821 10-07-2010 01:20 PM

damn -.-
what suprises me even more is that this kinda hole can be patched -.-

fliptuner 10-07-2010 03:10 PM

Like I said, if you can find one with a big enough stem, it should be OK.

DasHooch 10-16-2010 02:37 PM

The tire is now patched and on the rear (FWD).

fliptuner 10-16-2010 03:46 PM

What kind of patch/plug did they use?

DasHooch 10-17-2010 07:15 AM

It looked like 2" diameter with a 1/4" stem. I didn't watch them put it on. It was a busy Saturday, so I just left the wheel with them for a few hours. They also put a heat lamp on it to check for leaks when stressed.

Less than $40 with taxes. I'm happy, it takes the pressure off finding new tires right away.

Oh, and it was a complete spark plug. I half expected the ceramic part to have broken.

Iron Chef 10-17-2010 09:06 AM

why would you want to patch a bald tire?

RabidRat 10-17-2010 12:31 PM

^ Plenty of reasons.

-it's still good
-you save a shit ton of money waiting for deals to come up on tires (remember the half price RS-2's and RE01R's at TireRack?)
-he probably hasn't done a whole lot of research into what tire he wants next and that takes time, time that he doesn't have if this is his daily driver.
-it's almost time for winter tires anyway, which is another reason why it'd be kinda dumb to drop the $700-800 on a set of decent 235/17's all of a sudden, when it could be a couple hundred bucks off in the spring, or through the winter.

lol yeah chuckles were had

fliptuner 10-17-2010 01:30 PM

Yup, those are the best patches. Plugs prevent air from cavitating between the plies and this style can't get ripped out (like regular plugs).
