83 honda civic swap?

So I picked up an old 83 honda civic hatchback 1.3 L that is in decent shape. I want to upgrade the motor/tranny, suspension and brakes. What I want to know is what parts/swaps will work. I want to build a budjet sleeper that will blow the doors off most cars, and 1 g cornering at least. Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

what's your budget? 83 civics are hella light, you could do something like a built b20vtec and kill a lot of cars or a boosted low comp lsvtec. there's a ton of options.

Need pics of said car.

ok, I'll try to get some pics. Your right, it's light as hell. So if I get like 200 horse it would fuckin fly lol.

ls/v-tec way to go.

AAACCKK, what's Justin's username on here - he'd be the guy to ask.

He's done several D/B + suspension swaps into 1st gens.

thanks for the responses, but I really need the specifics like what driveshafts ,motor mounts etc. will work. I'm going to do all the work myself. Would it be worth trying to find a written off integra or something to use for parts? And if so, which model will I get the most parts off. Thanks guys, This is my first honda so bear with me :P

I dont want to spend shitloads on this car, I'm basically going to leave it stock on the outside besides the wheels and maybe a paint job. I will be putting in racing seats and fabricating a roll cage in it also. I think a n/a vtec would be good enough for now, because of monetary reasons.

I just blew the head gasket on it, and third gear didn't work when I got it. So I kinda need a new engine tranny combo asap.

Well I guess no one knows how to do it here..

spoon.ek9 10-22-2010 09:35 AM

this would be a good question to ask on vcc instead. not a lot of people are going to have experience with '83 civics around here.

Ohh that brings back memories I had a 83' 1500s dual carbs 5 speed black/red trim damn fun car

canadiansc2 10-23-2010 09:45 AM

Thats exactly what I want to build, a damn fun overall car :D I'm having a hard tíme finding info on the 2nd gen civic. I got it for free, so I don't mind putting some hard-earned cash into it. Especially if it ends up being a disguised missile.

They rust real bad in the lower rocker toe board area so check that out. Mine was mint and then I found that and scrapped it. This was long before I was any good at rust repair I regret it now.If your creative with fabrication and can handle wiring then you can put most any Honda drivetrain in it or others.

B18c5 would be amazing in that car.

canadiansc2 11-03-2010 07:41 AM

I got enough skills, I have 15 year equivalent bodywork/painting experience and I can turn a wrench as good as anyone. That's not the point, I need to know what to buy before I pick up a wrench.
