Any thoughts on this article? I thought it was rather interesting. Posted via RS Mobile |
I have read a few articles linking breast cancer to menstruation. Women who have fewer periods are more likely to avoid breast cancer. Why? There's some connection between hormones produced during menstruation and cancer causing agents.
The study showed a very low rate of breast cancer among women from 3rd world countries - why? Cause they have more babies and breast feed their babies, and sometimes other babies. This causes their bodies to skip periods while pregnant or nursing, leading to less periods and less breast cancer.
The same could easily be applied to 1st world countries. Reinvent the birth control pill to completely get rid of periods. I say "reinvent" cause the original birth control bill did get rid of periods, yet was tweaked for political/religious/misunderstood reasons.
I agree with the article, this month does not create enough awareness of how to prevent breast cancer, only awareness of treatments and survivors.
