| Clarion Dvd Deck + sub questions
I got offered a really good deal on a clarion vx400, it looks like a nice dvd player, just wondering what are you opinions on it?
also
What sounds better a ported or non ported box?
and does sound make a big difference from 10inch to 12inch, the 12inch sub is 40bucks more but is it worth it?
it is the jl w0 series sub

what's a 'really good deal'?
generally speaking: a ported box more efficient - you'll get more output from it but you lose accuracy. sealed boxes gives you nice tight bass response. preference of music is a factor too

i think visions had this deck for 300 a couple weeks ago.. my buddy got it. not bad for what it does and it has built in bluetooth.. i have the vx409 and the only thing i wish it had was built in bluetooth.. none of this "bluetooth ready" bs.
cant go wrong with jl audio.. even their entry level w0s are great... i used to be a big 12" fan but lately i have had 2 10s and currently single 10". if you want crazzzzy basss .. the 1 10w0 wont be enough.. but if you want a good upgrade with solid bass.. that will do.
the box i have now is ported and i do notice the inaccuracy of it.. i rather have a sealed but this ported box was built to spec for my sub and i got it for cheap from my buddy

Don't expect a lot out of those cheaper Clarion decks - you get what you pay for. I installed one for a customer a few days ago and the graphics were...well...very cheap. Price wise, that ain't so bad I suppose.
JL subs are ok. The only one I would ever rock is the W6V2. The 0's and 3's simply cannot play with the big boys. If you want bang for the buck you should really look into Digital Designs. They aren't 'cute' or 'pretty' but they are built to take power, sound good and last forever. Plus, they're made in the USA. Price is comparible if not less, than JL.
I like 10's a lot. I have been using a single 10" DD in both of my vehicles. They are both in ported enclosures tuned quite low and they sound amazing! Good enough to win trophies all summer long in both SQ (sound quality) and SPL (LOUD BASS!).
Remember, no matter what you choose for a sub, just be sure to have the box custom built by a professional. Thats the single biggest advantage in a subwoofer system - having the right box!

Also to be honest, i dont really care about if its a dvd or not, i just liked the fact it is double din, i had bad expierences with harnesses that don't fit properly. So i just prefer to fill it up with a double din lol.
I just want a deck with ipod hook up that leads to glove box

if you just wnt double din, you should get an alpine or pioneer double din receiver with no dvd/video playback.. you would get better audio output that way

I just want a deck with ipod hook up that leads to glove box | We have a really nice double din Pioneer unit for just a little bit more than that clarion and its brand new with warranty. We've also got other decks as well both single and double din. Are you ever in the Coquitlam area?
