i don't think that was pepper spray.
you can't just shrug off pepper spray like that. And everyone around them, and walking by them, would also be in pain from the spray as well.

I'm thinking that was NOT pepper spray because pepper spray would have a greater effect on him, especially his ability to talk/sing afterwards. He would be tearing, unable to see and coughing, spitting. Spraying someone at such a close distance will probably affect himself as well and the people around as it disperses.
It was probably a deodorant spray from his bag. Pepper spray comes out as a more liquid spray/stream and would be red/orange on his face/shirt and would not so aerosolized.

It comes out as a spray just like that, and kids carry it around more commonly because you're able to purchase it more easily.
