Rogers changes HUP eligibility...

http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/10/20/ef...hone-excluded/

Effective today Rogers has made changes to their Hardware Upgrade Eligibility Program (HUP). In an internal doc it states that “Customers will be eligible for new device price at month 30″

Glad I didn't wait for the Captivate and picked up an iPhone 4

LsquareD 10-20-2010 03:49 PM

thats bs. screw you rogers

Razor Ramon HG 10-20-2010 04:02 PM

Does this effect corporate customers?

jtanner_ 10-20-2010 04:16 PM

Would this effect current customers until their next HUP cycle? I've called in recently and been told to wait til the 2 year mark... Would this now become the 2.5 year mark or would I still be eligible come 2 years... Lol

Hahahahah, You guys should read the continuing crapstorm that is the Captivate thread on RedBoard.

I've been paying for data since August in anticipation for this phone.
Already bought the new Sim Card too. (I doubt they would just give them out for free, since your slower data usage is in their best intrest).
"Soon" to the rest of us means... 2-3 weeks. How wrong we were.

Now my 6gb/month data fee is going to line some money grubber's pocket.
I'm so pissed off I'd rather burn then give it to them.

Just think of the people that are paying for data with a talk phone like mine, but can't get the Captivate cause of the new HUP rule.
Possible new entry to the shootings thread.

They better bring back tiers, or they will be enabling many of us on getting unlocked phones.
Not being locked in a contract with Rogers is the first step in walking away.
I'm surprised they are doing this.

About that handset protection guarantee. If I lose my iPhone 4. Do they give me a new one? What's the catch?

I believe iPhones are excluded from the handset protection. And in the TOS, they do state that the replacement phone may not be the same type of phone nor same feature set. So if you had a smartphone, they could replace it with a cheap pre-paid phone technically. That's how I understand it... just another cash grab.

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-21-2010 09:31 AM

2 years and half?

wtf

!MiKrofT 10-21-2010 10:08 AM

Good thing I don't really care much about HUP. All my phones come from other networks lol.

Say iphone 3GS is 699 brand new, you would pay $649 with the handset replacement gurantee (you wont get to pay the same price as your HUP), and that doesnt gurantee your replacement iphone is new,, It may as well be refurbished unit.

To sum it up,, Handset replacement Gurantee is a marketing tool that sounds good on paper /TV when you hear it, but when you are actually in the situation, it won't help you that much.

Preemo 10-21-2010 11:34 PM

I guess I should really look after my phone and use it like it's made of glass.

When you look at the fine print, it is not a good as they say.

Rogers changed it back to 24 months LOL

Quote:

Great news for Rogers customers! They recently changed their Hardware Upgrade Eligibility Program (HUP) for eligibility at month 30. After customers didn’t take that news lightly it now seems Rogers has listened and switched back to have eligibility on month 24.

The internal doc states that “Last week we communicated some changes to our Hardware Upgrade Eligibility Program (HUP) eligibility. To ensure our current promotions are clear and consistent Data to Data eligibility will be revised to 24 months tomorrow (October 28th). This will align Voice to Voice, Voice to Data and Data to Data eligibility all to 24 months”

nice

How strict is Rogers with the 24 month HUP eligibility, cause this guy I work with still HUPs to a new iPhone every year but when I call in they are set on the 2 year thing. Does it really depend on how much you spend a month in bills or do you have to call and whine or what?
