car badges

quick question, is it illegal to have a different badge on your car?

ex: say you drive a toyota, but you have a chevy logo on it... so it would say chevy 4runner on the back or something..

cause i know 75% of people with acuras rip off the A and put in an H...

so whats the deal there? allowed or not to?

BallPeenHammer2 10-22-2010 10:47 PM

It's fine. If the police wanted to know what car you drive, they can just run the plate.

any PO's confirm this?

I see so much of it, but never seen one get into trouble for it?

You'd look stupid though, putting an AMG sign on a BMW...etc

FN-2199 10-22-2010 10:51 PM

I'd imagine that it would be perfectly fine. Changing the badge of the car does not change its model and make.

stewie 10-22-2010 10:52 PM

hahaha if you've seen my vehicle you'd understand and laugh...jacked up 4x4...hasnt been washed in years...dents everywhere...scratches all over from making my own trails in bushes...a budget rental sticker i tend to put on from time to time hahaha...random things people have written into the mud/dirt on teh back of the vehicle "i love fat bitches" "free candy inside" "i love dongs" and the list goes on hahaha...i never go to the back so i never really notice whats written there until a week or two later usually hahaha..

I have a "CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR" badge on my GSR, i've had no hassles so far.

Solo_D33A 10-23-2010 11:17 AM

Did a full Eclipse conversion before on my Talon, can't see anything Talon about it even down to steering wheel or antenna... cops would pull me over and check the reg, vin, plate, then let me go. They just want to link up plate and vin with the reg.

Badges don't matter as much as colour does :) try driving around a 2-tone car and being pulled over cause it should be silver yet looks black from the rear :D

Uh I have one on my non-Police MC. Seems it fell off when the new reflective striping kits were installed on the rear of some PCs. My bad. :(

Sure that isn't something like impostering a police officer? I know having a red map reading light would be so I have a feeling putting "police" on the back of your car must be too.

badge and emblem doesnt matter, but matte car different color from under layer or original is not allowed. must renew through icbc and let them know that if ie) white car --> matte black now must comment as black car not white

I know someone who got pulled over while driving a POS rustbucket. Her car was technically blue but the cop put BROWN because of all the rust. She won the dispute.

!SG 11-14-2010 07:14 PM

would you rather face the ticket? or the mocking from everyone for all the badges that dont belong to your car?

tough decision...

DiiCii 11-14-2010 07:27 PM

i don't see the emblems a problem at all, people do odd conversions to their cars too :P

Never had an officer question my Tuscani emblems. However when one asked what type of car it was after pulling me over for my loud a$$ headers, he looked like a deer in the headlights.

I am bumping this old thread because a VPD officer was try to give me trouble for having Honda badges on my Acura. (I pointed out the glass etching from the factory, he told me anyone could have done it themselves...)
I would like to know if there is an exact law saying I can or can't do that? That way when I meet another officer that doesn't believe an acura is a honda, I can tell him i am legally allowed to do that.

xmisstrinh 08-23-2011 08:31 PM

should've told him to run the vin/plates. sounds like mr. officer was having a power trip...

If you read the thread about covering your VIN, you'll see that his VIN was covered and that's why the officer started giving him a hard time. Having the VIN covered is a legit concern of the officer. The badge issue, he may be just checking to see why he is 'misrepresenting' his car...although we all know that Acuras have Honda plastered all over everything in the car. I guess you do have a legit beef about him questioning the badge, but if the VIN wasn't covered, I don't think he would have looked further.

You can tell him legally you're allowed to do it, just make sure there's nothing else you can be VI'd for cause he sure won't be in a good mood after that.

Officers make sure the plates match the car, and if you've changed the badges then it might not and you'll get pulled over to check. Luckily most officers are car people and know about this minor stuff and let it go.

So, flip the Honda badge over... now it's a (slightly distorted) Acura "A"). Does he not know that Acuras ARE Hondas (with factory rice)?

Well, I know *I* always carry a professional glass-etching kit with me, ready to carve factory-looking numbers into anyone's windows at the drop of a hat. In fact, just last week, I drove around the British Properties, finding all the BMW 7s and R8s and Bentleys left parked on the streets, and etching authentic-looking Lada VINs into their windows. Ah, good times.
