What should I do?

Ive been with Fido for 6 years and I'm going to be done my contract in 2 months and I also have a sweet retention plan. I'm using a bold 9000 right now and I love bbm but I want a new phone. What should i do? Stick with Fido and get a crappy blackberry? or upgrade to rogers and get a nicer blackberry but pay there ridiculous plan options? help!

ilvtofu 10-25-2010 03:10 PM

Get an iphone 4 through retentions and sell it lol. Your plan will probably offset the difference if you want a torch from rogers.

Or, be really smart and just buy a new berry off craigslist that's unlocked and use it on fido.

^If you're planning to have a plan here for at least the next 3 years why not get the phone and make an easy $400 which is good for a few months of phone bills or a Blackberry off Craigslist. I'm sure there are people willing to trade their Torch/bold etc. for an iphone 4 give or take some cash

Most likely your current retention plan gets some $10-20 credit which you won't get anymore once your contract is over. So ya just do what ilvtofu says. Tell Fido you want to cancel for Bell/Telus, and they'll put you to retentions thats when you push for iPhone 4 and an even better plan. iPhone 4 goes for a bit more than Torch on craigslist and it will sell fast.

Just call the 1-877-288-4240 and then press 5 for retentions
They are much more efficient. I just called today to set up my tethering to the regular number and my phone dropped the call while I was being put on hold  so I ended up calling the retention number which doesn't put you on hold (at least I've never had that experience)
They aren't as friendly a bunch of people IMO but they'll get the job done haha

Good ideas, but I was already thinking about getting the iphone and selling it, but the rep told me I need to have the iphone data on my plan for 3 years if I was getting that phone or else I would be looking at a 200 cancellation fee of that iphone data.

Also how would I push for a better plan with retentions? What would I be arguing with?

ninjai123 10-25-2010 09:07 PM

^ how much are you currently paying? what is your plan like? and what are you looking for on your new plan? if you do want an iphone 4 you will definitely have a data plan if not pay the 200$ for no data penalty even at 0mb usage.

nguyen 10-25-2010 09:17 PM

Something like
unlimited calling
CD/VM/2500txt
500mb
$42.50
I'm looking for something similar but I just want a Blackberry but Fido doesn't offer anything good other then the plan I have right now. And I wouldn't want to pay that fee of 200 for canceling. No way of getting the iphone 4 without having to have the iphone data?

ninjai123 10-25-2010 09:33 PM

^ nope you gotta get the phone with data or pay the penalty, if you already currently have the data then i don't think it would be a big problem you might be able to get some kinda discount....but with fido its really REALLY HARD! lol aside from that you got yourself some killer plan since you got that unlimited calling

nguyen 10-25-2010 10:00 PM

Yeah, in the end I'm pretty much stuck. iphone data and blackberry data is different so either way I can't really do much other then going to rogers if I'm dieing for a new blackberry.

ninjai123 10-25-2010 10:18 PM

what are you looking for? BERRY OR IPHONE? cause it truthfully you can tell them give you the regular data for iphone which is not the same as berry but you can always beg them to switch back to berry data after lol and you can use your berry again.!

nguyen 10-25-2010 10:34 PM

I'm looking for a berry, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with an iphone data plan if they won't switch it back to the blackberry data

ninjai123 10-25-2010 10:36 PM

i am 200% sure they can do that lol my friend switch his berry data to the iphone data so i am sure you can get the iphone data to berry data, I myself can use either one berry or iphone

Teh Doucher 10-25-2010 11:56 PM

since you only have the 500mb, tell them to make it a berry data plan incase you end up switching or something down the line. berry data works with all smart phones...

nguyen 10-26-2010 09:45 AM

Alright, I never knew that, they told me I need to switch to iphone data, and I never knew blackberry data works with iphone data and I never knew you could switch iphone data to blackberry data..I thought if you were to upgrade to an iphone you would need to stay with the data.
Should I be saying all of this to retention?

Teh Doucher 10-26-2010 12:18 PM
