they messed up the symbol for micrometer..should be µm.
but yeah, its amazing, learned some new prefixes (stuff>Tera and stuff < femto)

I'm no astronomer or physicist but from what I understand, they estimate the age of the universe by the light of the oldest stars they can see then they do some fancy math + physics involving the speed of light to arrive at the current size and the rate at which the universe expands.
Astronomy 110 at UBC gives you some nice introductory info.
