Blackberry Version 5.0 for 9630 So i have the reject of the blackberry world, but i actually quite love it anywho, all the phones are pretty much software version 5.0 compatible but mine's 4.7. so bell doesn't have a 5.0 for my phone. but it is available on other providers. would my phone not be compatible with bell anymore if i download 5.0 off another provider and install it onto my phone? anyone know? my phone's very slow with the old version, the 5.0 is SO much faster. thanks guys! |
You can go ahead and download and update to 5.0.x and you can still use it on the Bell network. What the issue with become though, is that Bell will not give you tech support while on that new OS. That being said, don't tell them you're on an OS that is not theirs. |

on another note, i can't seem to update it to 5.0 as the desktop manager wont' allow me to, i guess there's something in my phone that let's it know that it's a bell phone and it doesn't have 5.0 yet. anyhow does anyone know a way i can bypass this? thanks |
1) Back up with desktop manager. 2) Close desktop manager, and install desired OS version. 3) Delete 'vendor.xml' (I can't remember the dir it's in; just search for it) 4) Run Apploader (C/prog/shared/rim/apploader) 5) Update that way. 6) Restore contacts from backup done beforehand if needed. It's how I've always done it for my bold 9000 (the other half-reject) on unofficial (non-rogers) 5.0 releases. Posted via RS Mobile |

I tended not to update from rogers; I got my first 5.x update last june or so, a couple months after 5.0 first came out as a beta. So I've been loading non-vendor-locked versions for quite some time. The only real difference between doing it the "official" way and this way is deleting "vendor.xml", which is what says "only load it on devices that are X branded". Plus it goes around desktop manager's bloatware. Apploader is also useful if you get the "507 load software" error (like I got yesterday), it'll let you pull your berry back from the brink o'death. -edit- Sorry, I guess I was a bit unclear in my original instructions. When I said "install", I meant "install the blackberry OS version you want on your PC", then (with desktop manager closed) delete vendor.xml located in that install's folder, then install the new OS on your phone. Pm me if you need more help, I can walk you through it on MSN, or you can add me on BBM and I'll give you more detail there. Posted via RS Mobile |
^ i didn't really notice you saying that, i did install the updated onto my comp and then went to apploader and it installed it fine on my phone although the phone get's warm for some weird reason. and i can't seem to remember my email settings log in lol. thanks again bud! |
