Window 7 - AMD C&Q, Multicore optimizer?

Just installed W7 on a AMD Phenom x4 965.

I remember on Window XP, I usually have to install the AMD Cool&Quiet driver and dual/quad core optimizer manually.

Do I still need to do that on W7? I installed the "chipset" driver from the MSI mobo driver disc, but it doesn't say anything about AMD CPU.

nope win7 has it natively.

however i think i read that you can't have the power setting in win7 be "performance", but rather balanced/power saver.

i may be wrong about the second point.

1) Make sure the settings are enabled in the BIOS
2) Make sure to be using the "Balanced" power profile, unedited
