UBC Sauder - Diploma of Accounting

Almost done my BA, thinking of options and this came up. Looking at their minimum requirement is kind of pointless, so I was wondering if anyone knows how competitive it is to get into this program? Like what the average is around for people who has gotten in. Thanks!

I thought pretty much anyone gets into this.

hmm I'm sort of in the same boat, finished a B.Sc and thinking about the DAP program. I'm seeing an advisor on tuesday, I'll ask!

Pretty much everyone gets into DAP. UBC is out to make money, not turn people away. Expect your class sizes to be pretty big and competition to be tough.

DAP you used to need a 75% or so average in your last 2 years or something like that

but basically, eveyrone gets in, its a cash cow - but i did it and it worked out very well for me

What is the recruiting like?

I'm from the US and want to come to Canada. I've looked at the Diploma in Accounting. Do the same companies that recruit for the MBA program recruit DAP students?

Thx.

^Probably but it seems there's some restriction on DAP students as far as attending info sessions. Like everyone said, it's a cash cow and you won't get the same privileges compare to MBAs.

Why do you want in? You don't need a business degree to do business, people. Sell yourself!

Meowjin 03-03-2011 12:29 PM

does it really matter where you get your Accounting degree/diploma? My friend did his at kwantlen and is now working for one of the big 4 as a CA (doing his hours currently) right now.

It's supposed to be easier in terms of getting connections to ease your job application process when you're in a big school with lots of connections with companies. So it does matter.. a little bit.

Many people believe in the added value of the degree based on the school's prestige but 99% of the time, it doesn't matter.

ok so i got in the program, course registration for Summer semester started at 9:30am, holy shit is the DAP site slow as fuk right now

make sure you hone your social skills. connections are very important!

haha i have a frd who graded from sauder and now works for a big firm...he tells me his recruiter even told him that UBC has some of the cockiest kids.

sauder & SFU business kids all love themselves (i'm ex DAP, ex big 4)

do what you will, its really down to luck whether you get in (i've seen VERY good ppl not get into big 4, and LOADS of terrible ones get into big 4) - or if a certain somenoe who has some pull (because they're an arse licker) likes you - its so political in big 4's, get in then get out...

rien 03-24-2011 07:47 PM

Which companies are the big 4's?

im in process of getting my diploma at kwantlen U, probably not going to expect a decent job until I get a bachelors though, anyone have any experience or stories about someone getting a job with an accounting diploma and no 4 year degree?

Meowjin 03-25-2011 04:55 AM

^Work at a small firm like my friend did while going to school. and make sure you volunteer alot, and not in bullshit.
