takoyaki?

Hey guys

Just want to know if there any place around burnaby or vancouver with good Takoyaki?

I use to go to Sushi Garden but after yesterday I won't ever go back there or support their business in anyway

There's this "hole in the wall" place on main and.... 18? It's called zi-pang sushi(sp). Not the best in terms of price, but it's good service and it's authentic japanese food

There is a place downtown on robson that specializes in takoyaki and tempura, it is near the japadog restaurant.
I can't think of he name right at this moment

edit: it is ebi-ten 388 robson st. Cheap + made to order :)
also can't go wrong with any of the guu restaurants

there's a place called manzo in richmond on alexandra road. Their menu is based on tapas. kind of expensive but i love that place. i think the restaurant may have been taken over by new management though..... not at all uncommon in richmond... takoyaki was damn good there.

Thank you all

Ive been to zi-pang and it is indeed good I was hoping for somewhere closer so I can quickly go if the uncontrollable urge for Takoyaki arise again

was hoping for areas close to metrotown ish or at least in east van/burnaby

btw did not know bubble world has Takoyaki will have to try that out

I bought a 50-pack of frozen takoyaki - can't beat that for convenience, and it's pretty good too :)
It's around $15-16 a bag at Fujiya and Izumi-ya - the Konbinaya (sp) Japanese mart on Robson also has frozen takoyaki in a smaller bag, about 12-15pc for $6-7 iirc.

It's also the same dude who used to run the Takoyaki kiosk at Night market.

Oh, yes you can.

Senna4ever 11-09-2010 05:53 AM

You can make it at home with an electric takoyaki maker. This was a house warming gift from a friend.

I don't think the Takoyaki at Zipang is all that great, it's really good, but I don't think it's amazing.
To me, does 2 things really well.
1. Sushi (it's one of the few sushi places in Vancouver where you can get actual wild sockey!)
2. Frying stuff. No joke. They have really light batter and it doesn't come out greasy at all.

For takoyaki, I really like Ajijiman in the foodcourt at aberdeen.
Their takoyaki is so soft. nom nom nom

They sell those for $40 bucks at Konbiniya.

Its surprisingly easy to make.

Had to stop by metrotown and was craving Takoyaki so I called sushi garden placed an order and was told it would be ready in 15mins. I came after 10mins and paid for my order and was told it should be ready soon. 30mins past I asked the same waitress if she could check for me and she said it is just being made right now and its almost done... 20mins go by I ask again and she tells me that there was a mistake on what I wanted and they are gonna make it now. another 20 mins go by and finally it comes out and I am told it is because its a "kitchen" item that it took so long. Long story short I told them that it took over an hour for 1 item and this kind of terrible service just lost them my business and everyone I will be telling this too.

WI came in the whole place was packed of ppl waiting for tables and by the time I got my food everyone had gotten a seat and most of them had gotten food. I also saw other ppl coming in ordering take out and getting their before me. I did not appreciate the lack of caring even after I repeated asked them nicely if it was coming, would I had to wait 2 hrs if I order sushi as well? Also no one even say sorry once to me, it seems like they were trying to convince me that it was normal for this kind of wait.

Anyways I will never show my face there again or support their business in any way, I have never been treated likes less than a customer anywhere else and that includes fast food joints.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the Takoyaki was not hot more so slightly cooler than room temp and that there was no Katsuobushi on top. I was not impressed

@Senna

You can buy it at Fujiya, but go to the main store on Clark & Venables, as I haven't seen it at the smaller stores.
