definitely not GTX470

it seems anything above GTX460 nividia is simply pumping excessive power to make up for its performance (i am guessing they lack the hardware architecture to go against ATI 5 & 6 series GPU)?

I believe 6870 deliver the same performance at less than half the power of a GTX470, which probably means less heat, less noise, more oc room and longer life.

on the other hand..you never know what you are getting with 1st generation product (ATI 6 series GPU)...so I dunno :lol

do brands matter?theres a bunch of different 6870 out there...does anything think there will be a price drop in video cards with the gtx580 coming out?

twitchyzero 11-08-2010 08:45 PM

brands only matter if you care about warranty for the most part

i will be picking up a new card around boxing day too..i'm hoping the 5850 will hit $200 or tad lower mark if the new higher end 6 series comes out...

Would you guys rather get 5850 (higher end but older) or 6870 (newer but mid-end)?

^ price will not drop :D maybe luckily boxing day look at the 480 right now man and 470 should be a decent card direct x11 support not so bad at all :)

and for twichy 6870 is 250$ i saw it on sale at newegg if you don't care about eyefinity and play on a regular 24 inch that should be enough juice and 200$ is a possibility on boxing day too :D

was it the visiontek or HIS? they are both that price at ncix right now.

yeah i will wait until whatever's the best bang for the buck at $200 during boxing day :D

ninjai123 11-08-2010 09:42 PM

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...E&promoid=1260

there it is :D you might be able to even pick up at 5870 at 250 or even 200 not a lot of people is gonna do eyefinity!

ok so i'm running an E5200 dual core OC'd to 3.0ghz and 4gb of Ram, I'm looking into some upgrades to my 9800GT...you think I should update my processor/mobo before I even think of getting a new vid card? Just curious to what your opinions are.

ninjai123 11-09-2010 01:41 AM

^ keep your system as if right now if I were you it should be able to play most games if its oc to 3.0ghz probably not at crazy resolution but enough i suppose. Save your money for boxing day and do a whole upgrade :)

qwerty69 11-09-2010 08:56 AM

so i found out i could get a used xfx 5870 reference card for $250, should i go for that or the 6870?

roastpuff 11-09-2010 08:59 AM

Love the XFX warranty, I'd get that.

Get the GTX 460

ninjai123 11-09-2010 04:26 PM

or you can go check the buy and used forum someguy is selling his 5850 for 180 obo early boxing day sales?

twitchyzero 11-09-2010 05:31 PM

i dont need eyefinity..would i still be better off with the 5850/70 than the 6870 if pricing are similar at boxing day?

i generally dont spend over $50 on used items..especially video cards that can die on you any time.

ninjai123 11-09-2010 07:15 PM

^ definitely they are more powerful then the new stuff and for the use 5850 i see is an xfx you should ask the guy for the warranty since most of xfx are lifetime warranty.:)
