Symantec Ghost alternative I've always wanted to create my own custom recovery image/disc (like the ones from OEM computer), but never knew which program would do it. Whenever I needed to reinstall my OS, I needed to download all the programs again and reinstall everything. I finally stumbled upon Symantec Ghost (I'm probably so outdated), and I wanted to know what do fellow members use and their reviews and experiences of it. Thanks! |
i found acronis true image better than ghost. |
WIndows 7 has its own built in Recovery Image program built right in that can also be used for upgrading harddrives without having to reinstall and starting all over again. There is full documentation and how to on Microsofts kb |
^Thanks! I had no idea that Windows 7 had such a feature. Does such feature exist on XP? I searched up acronis true image and it's a paid software. I'm wondering are there any legit free software? Thanks again |
Have a look at Hiren's Boot CD. |
Edit: Oops. My bad. Looks like they removed all the copyrighted stuff now. Hiren's isn't free. It's a collection of pirated utilities. Posted via RS Mobile |
moved from ghost to acronis TI about 3 years ago. Best $50 spent on software. Neat thing is that you can create a boot disk out of anything (cd, usb, etc), and after creating a clean formatted image it takes me 20 mins to reformat to a clean state every year with my custom settings and all minimum drivers, instead of the usual 3-4 hours. |
Macrium Reflect. It's free! Paid version can do incremental updates, free version just does one image backup at a time. |
