Nikon D7000
 

This is a question for Senna but I thought I'd start a discussion on it. I'm thinking of upgrading my D90 to the D7000 but I've been reading some reviews that its not as sharp as the D90. Senna, I think you've been able to play around with it, what do you think?

not worth the upgrade IMO..

the video mode in the D7000 is not great from what i've seen.

i'd go and save up for the D700 if you want an upgrade to your D90.

There are some issues with the D7000. Major focusing issues. I'm gonna leave it at that... Save up for something else like the D700.

I haven't read anything about focusing issues. More on sharpness issues. But it seems like its mostly from people using the kit lens or pixel peepers. There's plenty of users that have no problems with sharpness.

Going full frame like a D700 would be out of the question. I'd have to get all new lenses and I can't afford that type of investment. I don't really care much for video mode, its not a selling point for me. But thanks for your inputs.

You haven't heard anything because they just started shipping the cameras.

If you cannot afford to make the jump to full frame, then it makes a couple questions jump to mind:

1. What are the major selling points that attracts you towards the D7000? It really isn't worth the upgrade, the D90 is already a good camera, and essentially you are paying >$1000 for another mid-range level camera. Better to save for now.
2. What is your budget?

IMO, unless the movie mode is a major concern for you, I don't see why jump from D90 to D7000.

D7000 has perhaps the best DX format high iso out there. But in order to gain that clean high iso, it traded off with the details in the pics.

Just start saving money and keep on shooting, around this time next year, you might be able to afford a D700 successor.

Do you need what the D7000 has?
I'd say just get a new lens.

When I was purchasing my D90 from Broadway Camera, the sales man said "It doesn't matter about the camera, the lens takes the better picture." I found it true when he said that.

what interests me about the D7000 is the better ISO performance, weathersealing and the magnesium body, better metering, more autofocus points. The 6fps is nice too. Yeah I'm still pondering the decision.

I've had my D90 for over 2 years now and my popup flash doesn't work anymore.
Can't use the CLS if the popup won't fire. I guess its no biggy now that I have strobes and a SB600.

I just picked up the d7000 on friday and have yet to actually do a photoshoot with it. So far its amazing and is more than enough camera for a mid range photographer.
