VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A dramatic takedown by Vancouver Police this morning after a 24 year-old man grabbed a 3 year-old boy and held him in a bathroom at the Ray-Cam Community Centre in East Vancouver.

The man has been in trouble with police before, and got into a heated argument with staff around 6 o'clock Tuesday night at the Centre, before taking the child from his horrified mother.

Police say they had to storm the bathroom after the man told them at 2 o'clock Wednesday morning that he had cut the child.

The boy has been taken to hospital. He will need stitches for a three inch gash on his cheek. The 24 year-old man has also gone to hospital for a superficial cut to his head.

Poor kid. Only 3 years old and now he has a scar that will be there for the rest of his life. Not to mention he will be reminded of this everytime he sees that scar

Crimes/violence against kids... :flamemad:

Of course, it kinda hits close to home since I have a 2.5 yr old.

I've been to Ray-Cam before, sketchy fucking community centre and surrounding area. Poor kid :(

it's times like these i think the VPD are fine in executing the Stanley Park beatdown crew.

that must be pretty tense for the ERT to storm a tiny confined space like a bathroom that has been barricaded by a hostage taker and his 3yr old hostage.

no CS, no rubber bullets, no taser.... out of fear of injuring the hostage. if anything, a flashbang and then all of it pure physical speed and force.

Flashbangs can actually be very dangerous in tight spaces. They could seriously injure you if they were to blow up next to you.

Breaching charge? Would seem to function in a similar way as a flash/concussion nade but more controlled and allows for quick/dynamic entry

if this happens in philipines, their flip commandos will probably lob a grenade in there.

+1 for the VPD

The kid is going to grow up as a toughie cuz he's got a scar to show for it. Seriously though, hope he'll be ok (both physically and mentally).

exactly. especially with a 3yr old hostage who's being used as a human shield.

which makes a breaching charge even more unlikely. also, not sure if the washroom at the community centre can be locked from the inside so i'm not sure if the ERT had to breach the door or if they just had to open it.

not a lot of furniture in a washroom to really block the door anyway.
