Thoughts on the Rampage III mobo?

Hey guys,

just wondering if any of you have thoughts on this motherboard:
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=55363&...nufacture=ASUS

I was thinking about buying this board for Boxing day (hoping it drops in price). I'm just wondering if you techies have anything that would be equivalent or better, and quite possibly cheaper in price?

the plan I have in mind is building a gaming rig. So, I'm pretty much going to buy an i7 chip, 4g ram, and a vid card with this on boxing day.

Budget is about $1000. Lower if possible. I'm really liking the specs on this board.

I've been told that the intel chips are doing a lot better for processing games and such, over the AM3 stuff.. So I thought to get this board. I've been told RoG puts in some quality work on their stuff though, so I figure your Crosshair is pretty nice.

I sport that mobo. i went from an ASUS maximum III gene to the rampage III and im loving every bit of it. if your planning to do some major overclocking, this mobo will handle the pressure well. if you want something close but save money then buy the maximus III gene with the price match on memory express. after taxes i got the maximus III for $130.

How is the Maximus? I don't really OC but I read this is still good for it with i5's. Did you upgrade because you didn't like or just for the extra power the rampage has?

Damn I got no input for that board, but it looks sick!!

sidenote: sandybridge board and chips are coming out sometime in dec-jan so you might wanna wait a bit before getting an outdated board since:

a) prices on those boards might drop when the new ones come out
b) low end sandy bridge board + cpu may out perform the rampage iii + a decent i7

just my 2c.

well i do plan on running some OC, just not hardcore. My current rig is 2.5ghz OC'd to 3, with a sink fan.

Also please consider I'm trying to find a decent setup for boxing day. So yeah, new chips may come out, but they won't be on sale.

^ thats is correct they maybe do have like a big sale on the first week and thats it lol just like the 875k first week sales with mobo for 370 something, again new chips less heat less energy as usual I don't think it changes that much so really it don't change anything lol fuking technology release every fukin year so why bother?

if you aren't going to be doing some fairly decent OC, including ram, then its pretty pointless to spend 300+ on a mobo.

200-250 should probably be able to net you all the needed features/slots. Even the cheapest of the cheap mobos will allow you to do mild OC'ing (+20% or so) without issues these days.

i would just suggest reading the forum posts on ncix for any mobo's you're considering, lots of good info there.

I can hook you up with an I7 970 http://ncix.com/products/?sku=54680&...ufacture=Intel for about $400~450 in January if your interested. But your looking to spend ~1k on your build and your mobo costs 300 already x_x
