Buying auction cars, any thoughts?
 

I'm thinking to buy an auction car from a towing company. Has anyone here bought an auction car? Any idea about the paper work?

Since we're sort of on the topic, are icbc cars sold through auctions or through icbc directly?

One of my friends bought a teggy off ICBC auctions for like 1500$. Dunno how paper stuff work.

Through auctions I believe, some bodyshop bought my crashed volvo for $1500 heh. I keep trying to find it at a kingsway auto dealer with the description of "no accidents"

yeah but make sure it's priced resonable... if it's really low cost below market value prepare to get raped by problems.

Cars that've gone through ICBC can only be sold to licenced bodyshops that have a ticket to bid on rebuildable cars. Dismantle only cars can only be sold to wreckers with a dismantle only ticket.

What the OP is asking about is an auction from a tow yard where they hold it long enough that they can legally own it and re-sell it.

OP, ask the yard that's holding the auction or a knowledgable Autoplan agent what is required to get it into your name.

As a previous Arbitration coordinator for Adesa Auctions, my advice for someone planning to buy auction cars is make sure you do your homework! check history, claims, leins, and other available resources. In Adesa, there is an option to get a general inspection of the car to check for leaks, wear n tear, frame damage, etc.

very worth it to get a frame damage check (if available)to see if the car has been in an accident or not. claims history might not show accidents but a visual, physical damage does not lie.

as for paperwork, depends on each auction/towing company. Adesa process is you sign up and pay a fee to purchase auction vehicles. When you find a car you like, you bid on it. If you win the bid, you go to an agent and show them your number tag and they will process your transfer forms, ask if you want to get the car inspected, pay another fee to extend the arbitration period (period of being able to complain about any damages and the company will try to help), and finally go through an ICBC insurance agent.

if you do buy, do your work BEFORE your make your bid. If you do make your and your the winning, you have to pay ASAP. you cant test drive or anything. no car history comes with it as well.

i buy cars @ Adesa but only $10K + cars... dont even bother buying anything there if you arent willing to spend at least 10k..trust me --few friends got screwed BIG time at adesa.

1.pickup trucks 03 and newer
2.commercial vehicles(any year any model) they sell so easy
3.classic autos( very rare @ Adesa)
