How unique is your car? (VINs)

http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

probably not the most accurate but how rare is your car? shows the different options/colours/transmission options/etc. Still pretty neat IMO, not sure how it works for older cars etc.

jlenko 11-30-2010 11:22 PM

Not accurate at all. It says my Cavalier is 1 of 1... but I know it's one of like.. millions..

HAHAHAHAHA:rofl::rofl:

Shun Izaki 11-30-2010 11:33 PM

not many people are going to run to their cars and get their VIN (or have it memorized).

that being said, do you trust a submit_form on a website you don't know to put your vin in? :D

Just saying, put a similar vin to mine, and the results were kinda bogus...

FN-2199 11-30-2010 11:34 PM

Doesn't work for JDM VINs. I can only assume the database is North American?

Leopold Stotch 11-30-2010 11:40 PM

lol there isn't a point. 1/5 cars on G35driver is like mine. G35 coupe manual, lowered with an exhaust and intake.

jstn86 11-30-2010 11:42 PM

they don't recognize my made in mexico volkswagen :(
trololololol

RevRav 11-30-2010 11:44 PM

Not accurate at all. Tried all the VINs in the "Anyone Have Carfax??" Thread page 24 & 25. Not one of them was found.

CP.AR 11-30-2010 11:53 PM

It's only for GM vehicles just so you guys know...

It could be very subtle differences ie. US spec cavalier isn't the same as Canadian spec cavalier with the same options.

!e.lo_ 12-01-2010 08:40 AM

Type R, pretty unique I think.

Soundy 12-01-2010 09:16 AM

Language fail - the word "unique" itself means "one of a kind". Something can't be "sort of unique" or "very unique" - it either is, or it isn't.

Just sayin'.

Yeah there's no cool/special factor involved, take the F40 for example, I'm not sure on the exact specs but I'd bet that a lot of them are the exact same spec, red with no options, bare bone car. Special yes, Unique? depends, but the idea is that you have an F40 that is the same as 99% of other ones. It's still rare so I guess it's somewhat unique when you look at the broader spectrum which is how many F40 are like that out of total cars on the road

That's exactly what it is... my Cavalier has km/h cluster, the US ones have a MPH cluster. Everything else is exactly the same... but there are "RPO codes" listed that are specific to Canadian cars that won't show up. So they think my car is unique...

That said... they know exactly what options my car was built with.. right down the dealer ordered stuff. So that means, they've got a copy of the list from GM of what VIN = what codes. I wonder how they got that list!??!?

Doesn't matter if you enter your VIN or not... they've already got them all. You can't just make up a VIN and have it work (even if you know how to calculate the check digit.. which I have tried). If you enter a fake VIN, it rejects it.

Thanks, Captain Obvious!

If you'd tried it.. you'd know I was talking about identically-optioned cars.
