Negotiating Contract

I'm a bit green to negotiating a contract.

I'm looking at about a year contract with possible extension. This is a job that is in the 40-45k range. What can I ask for in terms of benefits, medical, etc?

Industry is technology.

ask them to waive the waiting period...ask for what you want so at least you can tell yourself that you tried...

It may also depend on how much you are currently making assuming you are in the same field.

Other than the usual medical/dental benefits, make sure that they can at least match the amount of paid vacation days you get per year. Don't sound desperate, be assertive (while being reasonable) about what you deserve with your experience.

good luck, i'm on contact with a fortune 500. you're a dime a dozen with them along with people there.

you can try but i can tell you chances are minimal esp, espppp when you're on contract.

my price range is a bit higher than yours but I'm still in the technology vendor field and you'll get a ball park to ask for you but it won't be significantly higher.

i just started a new position last month...what i mentioned above is what i did...didn't get what i wanted...it was $6k more than what they mentioned but they added an extra 1k, and did get the waiting period waived which is a big thing for me...also my industry is technology...not necessarily info tech but close enough

What's this "waiting period"?

I ended up taking the job. Didn't negotiate much as I did not think I have sufficient leverage for any kind of bargaining at all.

probationary period before benefits kick in...in other words msp, healthcare benefits and such...i had that waived so from day 1 the company pays for those things...

think of it this way...they wanted you for that position so that is sufficient leverage...
