VW AKTIV speaker system. WTF? NOTE: AKTIV is like VW's premium sound system. So I've been wanting to upgrade my '91 Passat stock door speakers since they've been cracking ever since I bought the car a few months ago. Found out they're a 6.5" speaker, WITH AKTIV removed. Decided to pull the cover in hopes that it's a simple speaker. But... http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q...2-10_14-57.jpg :fuuuuu: To my knowledge, that's the stock 4" speaker/integrated amp combo. On the back is 10 prongs from the stock harness. However, I'm completely stupid when it comes to audio wiring, so I have no idea if I need to cut up anything in order to use a standard 6.5" speaker. Any help is appreciated! |
We could make a plate to integrate a 6>5" driver into your door and utilize the signal wires that are already in there to reduce the time and cost of satisfying your ears. It would take about 2 hours. |
That'd be awesome, but cost is an issue since I just want to go with a basic stock replacement. I'm already planning to work with second-hand speakers, and I'm trying to minimize how much I'm going to spend to get things working. The stock housing looks pre-cut enough to the stock brick to allow a direct drop in of a 6.5" speaker, but I'm more concerned about getting everything re-wired and I have no idea how much that would cost if I went through a sponsor if I can't just cannibalize the stock speaker harness. |

What I'm looking at using is a pair of used Alpine Type-S, nothing special and it'll get the job done to replace the crappy stock speakers. It'd be great to get the wires figured out since all I have to do is drop a pre-cut section of the door panel to expose the speakers. Rear speakers are the same size, and are a LOT less of a headache to replace. If you could PM me a quote on getting them installed, I'd appreciate it. |
those should be a Phillips speaker with a normal 4ohm impedance if you have a 3.5 or 4 inch driver drop it in. It still wont sound right but it will sound better. |
I think making a plate for the speakers to fit 6.5's and running new wires from the deck to the speakers makes the most sense. Price will be pretty decent too. Don't worry bro, I hook you up! |
