I wonder how the purests feel about a turbo //M.
A stripped down version would be perfect seeing as how this is 600lbs heavier then the e30 m3.

This beauty looks aggressive. I want if I had the dough :(.

For 52K you get roll down windows:thumbsup:

A nicely optioned S4 is 75K

ilvtofu 12-09-2010 07:29 AM

IMO it's the price that is the biggest turn off
There's already a lot of competition for this car from BMW both new and certified pre-owned alone

hal0g0dv2 12-09-2010 07:35 AM

looks pretty sick

Z3guy 12-09-2010 07:36 AM

those with a Z4 or 335i w the 3.5i.....with a tune, exhaust and intake...how much power are you making?

jstn86 12-09-2010 07:43 AM

I still think E46 M3 and the E39 M5 are the best BMW's built in the modern era.
just my opinion though.

really nice to see BMW going back to manual transmission again. thank you very much haha

Most people with JB3 tune, exhaust, and intake, are making ~380-400 HP.
If you wanted to go the route with warranty, most people with the BMW Performance tune, exhaust, and intake, are making ~325-330 HP.

So the rumored 340 HP for the 1M isn't anything amazing, but at it's estimate price point of 55-60k, you're looking, in terms of other NEW bmw's, the Z4 3.0, 335is, and Z4 3.5. All of which have less power stock and lack the lsd, wider track, M3 suspension components, etc that the 1M has, being a M car and all.
So imo, the 1M is a steal.
And, it also uses the N54, albeit in a as of yet unknown state (BMW M division has yet to say whether they just upped the boost or if they did more, such as larger turbos), but that means it also should respond to a simple tune as well as the Z4 3.5 and 335i/is.

hahah.. 35z4 is 70+

and m3 cannot compete with z4

maxx 12-09-2010 11:40 AM

They've finally done it. the 1M is an E30 M3.

I just wish the engine was naturally aspirated, but I guess we have to stay with the times.

rawr 12-09-2010 11:45 AM

I love this car and all, but if it's gonna be in the 50-60k range, I think I'll rather get a used 135i with the M-sport package and then slap on a quaife LSD.

Or how about a...
BMW 1 Series M Coupe GTS/CSL?

^ you think you can do a better job than M Motorsport? good luck buddy......OEM factory performance always trumps the aftermarket when you take into acct reliability, durability, and driveability.

135i w M sports pkg = understeer pig

The styling in the front and rear bumper looks way too busy. Traces of Audi rs5 at the air dams and the rear air ducts look tacky. For 50+ I would take a S4. Decently equipped with 2 tone alcantara , nav comes to 58g. I'm sure the 1M STARTS at 50~60. If you load it to the brim with options, I'm sure it would hit the 70s too.

belka 12-09-2010 09:18 PM

Any bets on how long before an Asian is seen driving one down Robson @ 2km/h? Don't forget the N magnet.

yeah, I wanted to imagine a 1series with the n/a 3.0L making around 300hp with LSD and a higher final drive.
