PingChat? It's been around for a bit, but does this have the potential to be the next big thing? It's compatible across all platforms (iPhones, BB, Androids), and pretty much works like BBM. Only thing is the other phones have to install this app, which is free. Is anyone using this and how do you like it? |
Used it when it first came out. Picked a normal name as my ID. Got bombarded with messages every single hour from people thinking they know me. Deleted PingChat after that. Honestly theres more out there that are better than Ping, such as Whatsapp. But even then they won't be the next big thing. |
Ping is slow, try whatsapp instead, it's way better and has more features. Only thing is that it is lacking group chat. Kik is also some buzz as of late, clean no frills messenger, not a fan of the ID system, rather have it use phone numbers like whatsapp Posted via RS Mobile |
Anyone tried Cnected? |
The thing I don't like about Whatsapp is it uses phone numbers...I like having an ID system instead. Otherwise I would just text the person if I have their number. Much easier to exchange if I just give ppl my ping ID or something like that |
The good thing about whatsapp is that it works internationally...good for people without msn |
it sucks |
I recently started using KiK messenger, anyone tried it? It's not bad. |
uh .. i thought kik got kicked out of BB app world b/c it was built by an ex-BBM programmer and RIM is suing their ass the one thing i don't like about kik is that you cannot manage your account or delete your account once you sign up |
it may have been booted from BB app but it's still on android/apple, thought we were just talking platform messaging services, nothing specific. |
i thought we were talking about cross platform messaging including iOS, android, and BB i had high hopes for kik but using whatsapp now |
ah, yes i see the op was referring to all platforms. Trying whatsapp now |
Whatsapp is missing history log of somesort...or else it would been awesome. |

personally i dislike an ID system, it is easier to have an app that automatically scans your address and adds buddies. plus using an ID system for a smartphone messenger makes things no different than using MSN or AIM. the benefits of whatsapp are... slick/fast interface, send audio/video/photo/gps-location/v-card over 3G/wifi (no MMS charges), no PINs or user IDs to remember or enter, cross platform. unfortunately whatsapp is still missing group chat and it costs a few dollars more on the BB. |
Hmmm not very good reviews...that's disappointing. Maybe we can make this a thread that updates any new cross platform chat apps. I see a lot of potential in something like this, there's gotta be someone who is going to come up with something awesome soon. Whatsapp sounds ok but I don't see many of my friends using it, especially since they have to pay for it, and a lot of them have BBM on their BB. Do I have to manually add contacts on Whatsapp or does it add everyone in my address book automatically? |
i used to use whatsapp, but it kind of die down as it is a paid app.... i'm using textplus now. its free, it a bit slow but its free sms to anyone on any carrier + the ability to groupchat. works for everyone regardless if they have the app or not |

I'm old skool so I just use MSN on my phone since I can also use it on the computer too. For people who don't have MSN on their phone I will just text message them. If they don't want to receive text message because it's not cool since I'm not using one of those fancy apps, then I will call them  There's no way I'm telling people to install whatsapp on their phone while some people rather have pingchat or textplus or the other 20+ similiar app. Then I would have to install every single app just to message different people :willnill: |

I personally find that between BBM and MSN I have everyone covered. Other wise, they can send me a txt or get me on facebook, I have THAT on the bloody phone too. What else do I need? |
