Returns/Exchanges Long story short, I bought a pentax k5 on Nov 14th at Broadway camera. I didn't get much of a chance to play with it since then. Yesterday I bought a pentax 50-135 f2.8 from Broadway camera as well. Basically with this lens I found out the body is faulty and has a major front focus problem which is obvious with this long large aperture lens. Even the in body focus adjustment couldn't correct it. I tested my other lenses and they are front focusing as well, but as they are shorter lenses it isn't as noticeable. Basically I went back to Broadway camera today asking for an exchange on the body. Sending it in for warranty isn't an option as I'm leaving for Bolivia on Thursday. The guy helping me at first wouldn't admit the camera was front focusing in the first place. I showed him over and over again, it's not focusing right. Eventually he said, yes ok there is a problem. Then he lost my receipt for the lens I bought the previous day, they spent 15 minutes looking for that one until they printed a new one(minus the interac receipt). In the end they wouldn't give me an exchange. I realize i'm past the 14 days, but I've spent thousands of dollars there in the past on lenses, bodies, tripods, filters etc. The body I'm exchanging has 700 actuations on it (around 300 of those would have been at the factory) and its in perfect condition other than the focus issue. I should have done a better job checking over the camera before I bought it, but geeez, after spending so much money there and it being a fairly small company, you'd think you'd get some better customer service. This sucks. Basically, I'm looking for advice on what to do. Or what can I say to convince them to give me the exchange. I'm leaving for Bolivia on Thursday and I need a properly functioning camera. |
Go in on a weekday, talk to the store manager. Drop the hint on how much you spend there, if necessary. |
that two week policy has always pissed me off. what if you buy it for a gift, but it's still a few weeks away? what if you don't use a function that's rarely used, and when you finally do, you discover it's not functioning properly? i can see myself buying a camera and not using the hotshoe for weeks, since i don't even have a flash unit. and what do i do when i finally use it and it doesn't work?(just an example) screwed! i suppose what you have to do is rely on the manufacturers warranty and send it away, and wait 6 months. |

And sometimes it is. Never know til you try! |
agreed. first step is to go over the first guy's head. |
definitely talk to the manager during the weekday. Definitely tell him how much business you give him. |
