if that's the case.. you'll have to make sure your pci adapter is connecting to the 5 ghz network

it looks like you can't with that adapter =/

AWLH6070 - it only operates on 2.4~2.5 ghz

AWLL7025 - this model will though. it can operate on both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz

Why wouldn't you set both bands, or at least the 2.4GHz, to n/g/b? One device connecting at G speeds doesn't limit ALL of them to a G connection.

As for forcing one to use the 5GHz, that's easy - set HOMENET2 to a higher priority than HOMENET1 in your wireless adapter settings.

i think it still does. as long as that computer is on and connected via wireless g only.. the wireless network will not be able to be on wireless n

as long as the wireless device is able to use the 5 ghz frequency

you'll only notice more speed when you're transferring data within the network

this is not true. the first device connecting to a wireless network does not determine the speed at which the rest of the wireless devices negotiate.

Not so, at least not with modern routers. I think I saw one or two models that had this limitation back in the very early days of Draft-N, but it's not the case anymore.

If it doesn't, the 5GHz AP won't show up in the SSID list.

i just tried it out on my wireless network (dir-655) and you're right

i was about to connect..
  • laptop on wireless n
  • blackberry and iphone on wireless g
  • psp on wireless b
i remember reading somewhere before that it would downgrade the wireless network, but i guess that's not the case anymore!

ch1ck3nb0i, you should be able to connect to wireless n as long as you set it to 802.11mixed(n/g/b)
