f**king bell

Long story short my galaxy s's internal SD card fried due to the whole 2.2 upgrade fiasco that's going on right now. So I went and bought a used BB
Curve 3G while the samsung is sent away because I've always wanted to test out a BB so here I thought was my chance. Well I threw in the SIM card and everything was working perfectly and then I stepped into a bell store in the mall here and apparently they told me my 6gigs of internet is not usuable on a BB? So apparently all the playing around I did before I went into the store I was going to be charged extra for. I got that reversed but still. Now I have no idea what to do because I want to use the BB but will most likely want to use the galaxy when I get it back. and I can't just switch the data plan for now as I have the 6gigs for $30 promo which I can't get back if I get rid of it since it's apparently not in their system anymore. i'm fucked. and choked. why does the internet on a bb use a different system?

Cause it goes through the Blackberry servers (for data compression/encryption or something)

You can still use Wi-Fi though but idk if that'll make you any happier lol

to my knowledge - Blackberry uses the BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). I think any carrier has the same thing - you need to sign up for a BlackBerry plan to use a BlackBerry to surf the internet.

ditto

that's why the "unlimited mobile browser" or "$15/50MB mobile browser" works on all smartphones (with APN pda.bell.ca) but not on blackberries

Simplex123 12-13-2010 07:30 PM

I don't think you are even able to use internet unless you are on a BB data plan.. isn't that how it works..?

Vulcan300 12-13-2010 07:42 PM

i believe getting bb internet works on regular devices but not the other way around

Canadian Rider 12-13-2010 08:25 PM

yea the internet was working.. i just imagine it was charging me out of the ass to use it. only went to fbook once and maps once though

k2_alpha 12-14-2010 12:39 PM

You need to grow up.
Do NOT start complaing and whining at something that you do not understand.
As stated in earlier posts, the BIS is not the same as "regular" smartphone data.

The $30 for 6GB is a promo feature. It actually doesn't exist anymore.
Your BB worked as if you are not using your "regular" data, the system will auto kick you into the correct data plan on pay per use.

Do your research first and whine only when it is NOT your fault.

when i first got my iphone i did the 6gb a month data, i switched to a bb last may and they switched the internet, all i had to do was call them

i still have the exact same data package, nothing was changed

this was rogers

Razor Ramon HG 12-14-2010 09:46 PM

On Rogers, my friend just swaps it for me without a problem :lol

Guess it's a little different on Bell.

k2_alpha 12-14-2010 10:23 PM

The feature has been removed from the system. Even if a rep wanted to help you, they cant.

bigzz786786 12-14-2010 10:28 PM

iono about bell, but with rogers i got a bb dataplan and recently switched it to a regular 500mb dataplan cause im getting a hardware upgrade for a different phone

im still using my bb in the meantime and am using 3g

Canadian Rider 12-15-2010 12:19 AM

Yeah as for using BB on a regular data plan I was told that I would get charged as if I don't have a plan. And yea they told me the 6gb is out of their system. I guess it should be fucking BB
