Macbook Pro Problem with External Monitor

I've got a 13" Macbook Pro (OSX) and recently bought an external monitor, BenQ G2420HD which has both VGI and DVI ports, as well as HDMI.

I bought a minidisplay port DVI adapter to connect it to my laptop, and it worked perfectly fine the first week. Then all of a sudden I wake up, turn it on and i get the black screen on my external monitor. My macbook still detects the monitor because when I go into displays it still shows all the options I can choose for mirror mode, resolution for both screens and etc...

I thought it was a defective monitor so I brought it back to NCIX, they tested and it apparently didn't work either, so I got a new one. Bring the new one home and it's still the same problem... they can't have given me two defective monitors in a row..?

Anyone who's experienced something similar please help :(

Thks.

you got another machine that you can plug it into as a primary monitor?

if so try changing the cables. use a dvi cable and a vga cable. Make sure the source is set correctly too so the monitor is actually listening to the port which the cable is plugged into.

I dont have another machine that's got a DVI port, but I did try another machine via VGA and it did work..

I'm wondering could it be the DVI cable that's the problem? I bought that separately cause the monitor didn't come with one. Laptop still detects the signal from the connection, just nothing on the screen..

Your details say you're in Richmond. There's a small Applestore called DMac in Lansdown Mall. I bet they will be able to help you out for free with such a small problem. They will have all the cables and such in store.

And if there's a problem with your MacBook they can help you fix it because they're an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Or the Apple store in Richmond Centre.

That would work too, but I found the smaller non-Apple Mac stores to have less people, so it's not as crowded and loud. The small Mac stores also offer a more personal experience.

I'll switch a DVI cable first, if that doesn't solve the prob I'll bring it to the store.

Thanks guys :)
