Surrey woman charged after dead baby found in Richmond dumpster

SURREY - A 20-year-old Surrey woman accused of throwing her dead baby into a dumpster in Richmond has been formally charged.
Courtney D. Taylor has been charged with concealing the body of a child and committing an interference with a human body. Richmond RCMP originally had recommended four charges, including infanticide, but the Crown is proceeding on only two charges.
Taylor did not appear in court herself Tuesday, but was represented by a lawyer. But five of her former friends and co-workers did show up, hoping to see Taylor in open court. They expressed little sympathy for Taylor, whom they said lives in Surrey and worked in Burnaby at a restaurant at Metrotown.

One of the girls, 16, told the media Tuesday that she called RCMP to inform them she had been told Taylor had disposed of her baby. Another co-worker, who is 17, said Taylor was obviously pregnant.
When she showed up for work in early February showing no signs of being pregnant anymore, she asked Taylor what had happened. She said Taylor initially at first gave a number of excuses, but then finally admitted she had disposed of the infant.
According to Richmond RCMP, the baby was born Jan. 31. It's not clear whether the baby was stillborn, or died after birth. Police said the baby, a boy, appeared to be full-term. Richmond RCMP believe Taylor and her Richmond boyfriend had disposed of the baby by wrapping him up in a towel, putting him in a garbage bag and putting the body in a dumpster.
By the time police learned of the baby's disposal, the dumpster had already been taken to the landfill. Police spent three days picking through garbage at the landfill in Delta before finding the infant's corpse.
