Internet Providers My 6 month intro pricing with Shaw just ran out, and I'm going to start looking around now. Ran a search, and it doesn't seem like we have a very good ongoing list by geographic area. It's be really cool to see what are the best prices we've been able talk them into. Urban does "fiber to the home" 10 gb/month is a bit too small for me, but their 10mbps download speed seems smoking fast. If I were to bring that up to 50gb/month, that'd still be only $20. Sounds really good. Any sort of reviews on them? What other options do I have? Edit: P.S. I'm in North Burnaby |
If you have Novus, get it. Nothing beats a symmetrical internet connection. Otherwise, there isn't much option out there. I'm with Telus Optik and speed is great, but again, nothing wow like Novus. |
another vote for Novus - it kicks the shit out of anything else out there and they're good with price-matching too. Nothing beats 10mbps upload on a basic internet package - keeps my torrent ratio way high lol |
urbans FTTH coverage area is extremely small, are you sure they provide service in your area? unless you really care about upload speeds, telus's 15mbit is great, as long as your fairly close to the CO. I see people complain about telus adsl dropping out and poor speeds etc, but in the last 3-4 years i've had i think 2 outages? Neither were longer than an hour, and ever since getting the 15mbit package i've never had my maximum available bandwidth less than 1.5MB/s. (this may be partially because i have a business class router) this is in north burnaby |
I was relatively happy with Telus as well. Used them for 4 years at my old place and can only recall maybe 2 major outages that were maybe 1 or 2 days max each time. I was pretty close to the CO, though, so my downlink was always maxed out at 1.7MB/s and very stable. I did, however, use their Thomson SpeedTouch modem connected to my own router - their 2Wire and Siemens modem/router units were total CRAP. |
Another vote for Novus if it's in your area. I think they just recently increased the amount from 110 GB to 125 GB and kept the price the same. |
