Hi_Im_Mike 12-21-2010 09:36 PM

What does the earth look like at night from space during the holidays?

So the question I have is, since seeing that awesome picture of what the earth looks like at night I was wondering. What does the earth look like at night during the holidays?

On the same topic, heres Earth mapped by a fellow friend from VeloCity at Waterloo University. He had a co-op with facebook, used the data and mapped out the shape of earth by facebook users.

Note Russia and China...

It would look exactly the same. What did you expect it to look like? Bunch of Red and Green lights?

RRxtar 12-23-2010 12:41 AM

Not exactly, maybe different colors here and there depending on the country.

No, I urge you it wouldn't. Decorative lights would be nowhere near bright enough to shine more than normal lights, especially when seen from space.

I love how your have the lower mainland, then nothing. Then a small spot for Whistler/SSC then nothing. To the east a couple little dots that I'm guessing are Kelowna and Kamloops, then nothing.

Canada looks like a whole lot of nothing in the dark.

Phil@rise 12-23-2010 10:02 AM

looks like Japan uses as much light as the whole of Canada
