Deck wiring issue please help!
 

Hey everyone... i just bought a new car (92 civic) and the guy i bought it from has the deck all wired up so that the front speakers are really quiet/dont work but the back has all the sound. when i change the configuration on the deck (JVC kd avx44) to make it so all the sound is coming from the front speakers i can hear a little bit of music but its very low. i tried contacting the seller back but i cant seem to get a hold of him. if anyone knows how to change it so i can hear surround sound then that would be awesome. i dont know if it helps but the back speakers are powered by a 4 channel amp that is powering both the back speakers and the sub. any help is much appreciated.thanks:)

There can be a lot of different possibilities for the speakers to be "quieter".

I can be wrong, but i am guessing it's:
-Poor insulation which caused corrosion on the wires which increased the resistance.
-Poor contact.
-Blown speakers.
-Wired to a higher ohms.

Bring it to a RS sponsor shop and get it checked out.

the amp is ampifying the sound to the rear speakers, all you need to do is put an amp on the front speakers.

It could be anything but here are a few things to try.

I assume the deck is powering the front speakers while the rear pre-outs and sub preouts go to the amp to run the 4 channels. Check the amp to see what the gain is set at.

Try unplugging the remote wire to the amp and see how loud your front speakers are. Perhaps the front speakers are blown or have water damage. Are they stock or aftermarket front speakers?

the speakers (aftermarket) are almost brand new and worked fine in my last civic so i dont think they are blown. wut you are saying about the wiring configuration sounds similar to what the previous owner said. ill check tomorrow to see what the gain is at. is there a certain value i should be setting it to? ill also try unplugging the remote wire to amp and see what happens. ill get back with results.thanks:)

sounds to me like the amp may be over gained.

if the back sound level is 'ok' then with exception to tuning with the gain as phil has mentioned and your issue is just the front sound levels - check to make sure your front speakers are in phase (assuming the speakers are not blown) meaning that the positive and negative wires are hooked up consistently on both. you can always just swap the leads on ONE speaker and see if there is a difference in sound. beyond that without seeing and hearing it, it could be a fault in the deck

I think that you have a problem with the amp in the deck.
Pull it out, disconnect the speaker wires and tag each one of the oem speaker wires with a tone generator to determine if my prognosis is correct.

ok so i pretty much took all the advice given and turn out it was as simple as fooling around with the gain knobs on the amp. thanks for all the help:)
