Points for a 'thank'? Appeal Process

Hi fellow members and admins/mods I would like to appeal the 12 points I received for simply thanking a post by a fellow member which some perceived as racist.
This is the post and thank in question:

While I understand that some people may find me thanking that post offensive, I in no way perpetuated the remark. You can interpret it as an endorsement of his attitude but the fact is that all I did was thank a post. I shouldn't have a dozen points that will last for three weeks for only pressing a button, and an ever lasting stain under my name.
Also I never knew that simply thanking a post could potentially lead to points being handed out (12 at that).

Thank You

while issuing a thanks for that particular comment was less-than tasteful, points shouldn't have been given out for agreement of a personal opinion regardless of what its ( that's what the fail button is there for ).

Though I do not like members perpetuating or spreading ill comments or ideas, whether it be racism, violence etc.. 12 points was not warranted therefore with counsel from owner's of the site, it has been reversed. If I were to administer a punishment or a gentle reminder, it would've been a low level warning.

disclaimer : this does not allow everyone on the board to go on a racism rampage or go buck wild. It is a case-by-case administration so be vary, and be warned. Please do not step out of line.

thank you.
