Good Movie & Video Editor for Beginner?

Can anyone recommend me some basic and good video editors for beginners?
I've never done any video editing before.

I am hoping for something with a noob friendly control and interface....something that can do basic stuffs like resizing, merging 2 video into 1, add texts, visual & sound effects...etc

start off with movie maker and imovie since they are free. Once you get better you can try the free trial for Sony Vegas Pro.

i use this free program and i've been very happy with it. It's called Videopad video editor. Convert to avi to wmv, add in music, add and subtract, i picked it up in 2 hours tops and producing decent videos.

i'll show you an example.

this 4 min video took me 4 hours *my 4th video.

3 min video on producing it the first time.
