HELP!! Computer wont turn on?

So I have this kinda old "gaming" computer that i bought off someone loongg time ago. Basically this computer never shuts off and i leave it on almost every night. This morning it wouldnt turn on at all. Weird thing is the blue led lights are still working inside the case. Im not too smart with computers so im not too sure whats happening. Its a quad core processor, 4 gb ram with a Gerorce 8800 GTS video card if that matters. Now i really need my computer to work ASAP, so do you guys have any suggestions? Maybe a place to inspect it? Appreciate it thanks.

this sounds stupid but, what is the monitor displaying when you try to turn it on?

Jegz 01-10-2011 09:35 PM

Nothing happens at all when I press the power. The monitor is black except when it says "Digital and analog". When its disconnected it says check signal cable.

Open the side of your case, is everything running with you turn it on? Is the cpu fan spinning, video card fan spinning? Try doing CMOS reset ( take mobo battery out for couple minutes and put it back in) or take out video card and put it back in.

Nothing is spinning. What is a mobo battery lol and not even sure where the video card is..I don't want to mess anything up lolarghhhh

Edit: maybe the power button wiring got disconnected? Iunno lol

probably a broken powersupply.

First thing that came to my mind. When you press the power button, put your ear near the power supply (Where you plug the power cable into the computer) and listen for a slight click. If you hear this when you try to power it, it's toast.

I think I've been beside the power supply for 10 mins listening for anything haha. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the responses

If you're comfortable opening up the case, give a tug to all wires and cables to make sure everything is snug and plugged in correctly. Look for any black marks on cables, on the Mobo etc.

Take out all the RAM except for one stick and try powering it up.

Do you see a POST screen when you power on at all?

Have you tried reseating everything?

Even re-seating the VGA/DVI cable for both the monitor end and the PC end?

if the led's are still working why would it be the PSU? wouldnt it more likely be his MB?

If you unit shows power but doesnt boot its your mobo.. If no power at all powersupply and maybe mobo... Those are the most common problems for your unit.. If it were a hard drive then the system would boot to post. Since it doesnt 90% chance its ur mobo.. Time to buy some upgrades...

Ok thanks guys. Bought this asus motherboard at memory express and they gonna diagnose it too before installing to make sure its the mobo that's causing the problem. :)
