Even if Honda decides to make a somewhat sporty car, they will lose out to luxury brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes which have made their cars more "affordable" in the last 10 years with aggressive leasing programs. I see more late model 3-series coupes on the road than RSXs. Heck, I even see more Z4s than S2000s.

^this guy knows.

Civics always have and always will sell. Honda doesn't have to change anything. Why fix something that's not broken?
The competition's just rising, but Honda isn't falling.

The Japanese still make decent cars that are borderline appliances.

It took the Big 3 nearly 40 years to catch up in terms of quality and reliability.

The window line reminds me of the 370z/GT-R.

I still agree with what was said in a recent Motor Trend magazine...

"Honda should just put the Civic Si motor into the CR-Z and call it a day."

Maybe then someone would actually want to buy one.

I imagine that Honda has invested a significant amount of money into Hybrid technology and as a result, they're trying to turn the CR-Z into some kind of halo car (i.e. hybrid technology can be sexy.) But, their marketers haven't realized that most enthusiasts appreciate the many quirks of an internal combustion engine - the different sounds, the tunability, etc.

Another reason for the poor sales is that enthusiasts would rather spend money on used cars (that are inherently simpler and more tunable) and save the rest of their cash for mods.

where does it say it's a concept? The concept pictures look different than this, leading me to believe that this is what we'll get in a few months.
Sure it says 2012 model, but that's how hyundai rolls. My 2010 coupe was bought in february 2009 with a janurary build date, some US owners have an 08 build date for their 2010 coupe.

I think what Honda wanted to prove was that hybrid cars can be sporty and fun to drive...

if they just put K20 or whatever...that would just be another Civic hatch kind of thing.

delSol97 11-22-2011 09:27 AM

Honda used to do both: CRX Si and HF, no reason they can't do it with CR-Z if they wanted to. I'd have bought a CR-Z already if it had a backseat ... I'd buy the Veloster if it weren't for that Hyundai badge on it.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a debate anymore..

TL_99 11-22-2011 08:08 PM

test drove the car. Its got all the gadgets such as heated seats, push button start, panaromic moonroof, bluetooth, 7" touchscreen.
Looks awesome on the road as well. Powerwise, not so much. Wait a little longer and hopefully they come out with the turbo version.

jlenko 11-22-2011 08:15 PM

^ Saw one on the road the other day.

Definitely looks like a bag of ass.

bcrdukes 11-22-2011 09:05 PM

To compare a Hyundai Veloster to a Honda CRX is just morally inexcusable.

The CRX had such a major influence on import compact car culture.

Hyundai continues to drive honda to its grave!

And honda deserves it for getting complacent. I saw one of these yesterday and it looks pretty good actually. Stands out in regular traffic.
