nice documentry... lol.... is it bad when i see 1986 pop up on the screen the first thing i do is to see if there are any Corolla GTS in the streets of vancouver while having Initial D music playin gin my head?? :troll: |
I seem to remember Skytrain was free for a while after it opened. My parents and I went on it on the first day - it was SO packed, and it was so cool to ride the thing. |
my memories only go as early as riding the skytrain with my mom when I was 6. I was all amazed at how high up we were and how nice the view was. Now I'm feeling all nostalgic. Damn but I don't mind, it's a nice feeling. |
great documentary seeing the city back then was pretty cool |
Awesome music. |

Funny how few asians there are. |
A bit off-topic... here's the Hong Kong MTR Documentary I found just for comparison. It's interesting to see how the two cities, given different conditions produced a similar system at very different scales. hopefully it'll also give people something to think about when they bitch and complain about Skytrain and compares it with other cities, with population density being a big factor. |
wow vancouver had lots of cars back in the 80's lol |

Speaking of Skytrain, which one do you vote for as the name for the smart card? http://www.theprovince.com/business/...709/story.html And the Canadaline is actually backwards in Technology compared to the MK2 Millennium line carts. |
^ For anyone too lazy to click the article, the final names are: 1. Starfish 2. TPass 3. Compass IMHO, all are pretty lame. Rumour has it that a couple of interesting names - "Otter" and "Umbrella" - were in the running prior to the final cut. "Umbrella" would have been my choice (it's fitting for Vancouver and is a metaphor for the transit system/card) And about the Canada Line: it's what happens when you cut costs. |

ill go for Tpass or Compass.... i assume T stand for Transit ??? |
wow starfish really? hahahhahahaha |

This video was made in 1986 though and 24 years later there is still no line was the point I was making. |
Compass is a pretty nice name. I vote for that. IN the province article it mentions the "Pacific Spirit" name. I submitted that name lol. I was sitting in the SUB at UBC, saw the "Pacific Spirit Place" sign and submitted... too bad it didn't make the cut |

Only in politics. At home, if I have a furnace and want to add a hot water heater, I go and get bids. If I have a company that built the furnace and they say the operating costs of my hot water tank will be cheaper because they can share components of the furnace-is that not a no brainer? Apparently not if I got elected to be the head of my household. |
Are you sure the vid is filmed in 1986? Everything looks the same as now. STuff people wear, places they look and stuff like that.. not much different from what I see when I walk outside and jump onto a sky train.... maybe that's Vancouver... chinese saying: 10 years like 1 day.... |
Starfish, TPass, and Compass....? wtf Why not Orca? Same kind of theme as London's Oyster and Hong Kong's Octopus cards. |
Orca is already used in Seattle |
