Moving Win7 Key

I want to take the Win7 upgrade key that I bought for my (now dying) laptop and use it to install Win7 on my gf's laptop. Is there anything special I need to do before uninstalling from my laptop to free up the key so I can successfully validate it on her laptop?

nope - there's nothing you can do. When you activate the key on your gf's laptop - if it's only the 2nd computer it's installed on, it might just install and activate no problem. Sometimes, you have to call the number and activate it over the phone. If that's the issue - either an automated service or an overseas (indian) guy/girl will ask you how many computer it's installed on. All you do is just say 1, and he/she will give you an activation key that you type in.

Awesome, thanks.

edit: Now I just need to try and hunt down that updating .exe that they gave out. I can't redownload mine :-(

Yes, It was confirmed that you can call microsoft and tell them you want to remove activation on old computer to move activation to new laptop, they can reactivate you .
