Dress code to Lang Lang recital?

I'm going to Lang Lang's piano recital on the 21st. It's my first time attending this kind of event. What's the typical dress code for this type of event? I'd hate to show up in t-shirt and jeans if everyone is in a tux lol.

I had to google to figure out who Lang Lang is (is that seriously his name?) and the first thing that comes up on Youtube is a video of him at the White House signing Hey Jude with Obama and Jerry Seinfeld... wtf!

Edit - Also anything at the Orpheum is automatically a no t-shirt zone. I dont think a tux is necessary but suit yes. Better to be overdressed than under, you can always pull a tie off and lose the jacket if the occasion seriously called for it.

Edit2 - Oh, boosty. lol.

Edit3 - Jerry looks uncomfortable as hell to be singing next to Paul McCartney, dont blame him.

I've shown up at Orpheum in t-shirt and jeans, 'semi-dressed' and once with a friend who's heavily into hip-hop and dressed like it. This is Vancouver, it's much more easy going, dress what you feel is appropriate for the occasion. And honestly, you may out dress quite a few people if you show up in a Tux.

I once went to a show at The Centre where everyone was dressed up and the guy next to me was wearing an orange sweatshirt and jeans.

I've been to a few performances at the orpheum, and I've seen lang lang there too, I would say dress shirt and dress pants are fine with black shoes you can coat check a winter coat. A suit is also fine, your choice between those two imo.

I'm not sure what kind of music he'll be playing but take a look at the program before it starts, if there are different movements in a piece don't clap in between them.

When in doubt of ANY event,

Business Casual usually works, if it's all suit. You're going to be a bit underdress but not terribly. If it's casual t's and jeans, you're not going to be to amazingly overdress.

That said, it's a classical concert of sorts. Go wear a suit.

Jeans and a sport jacket

Wongtouski 01-19-2011 07:22 PM

You need to go in proper attire.

Exhibit A.
