picking up a video card

Which one is a better choice:
Assuming they are similarly price and I will only run a single card setup. Please try not to suggest Nvidia gtx460 or gtx 470, cuz i am able to get discount on AMD product only.

1) HD 6870 (supposed to be replacement of hd 5770)
2) HD 5850 (mid-high end card?)

If your able to get a discount, might as well get the HD6870.

should've sold you my 6870..i got it for $190...after rebate it would've been taxes free.

it all depends on what resolution you are playing on 6870 is the best card right now for mid range gamers provides the best value and scalability.

wasabisashimi 01-19-2011 04:29 PM

how come 5850 has more stream processors/shader and lower clock at 725, while running nearly same performance? does that make 5850 a better OC'er?

I haven't decide on cards yet

i have the 5770 and it serves me well.. im not a really heavy gamer so i dont require much hp from video card, just a cpu...

pick according to what you use it more for.

ninjai123 01-20-2011 11:23 AM

^ even if you think of going hardcore you can still slap in another 5770 in crossX, and for wasabi if you plan on get the 5850 for overclocking don't bother your just gonna kill the lifespan of your video card unless you got a good cooling on it otherwise stick with g604 idea :)
