Importing Rebuilt US car, 2nd canadian inspection? Hello, Couldnt find this anywhere so thought I ask anyone whos imported a REBUILT title US car before. I understand the process is the same as importing a clean titled car but for rebuilt the RIV website says the car will need to go through a second inspection. Quote "All licensing jurisdictions in Canada require a second rigorous structural integrity inspection for U.S. salvage vehicles to verify that the necessary repairs have been done to make the vehicle road safe." Anyone know more details about this? Where to get it done? costs? I called riv and the guy said i would have to talk to 'someone' in my province?? The car Im looking into is already repaired and running in the US(theft recovery), does this inspection apply? Any info would be great. http://www.riv.ca/PartsAndSalvageVehicles.aspx Thanks Pete |
these guys should be able to help you out its another inspection that has to be done only on rebuilt vehicles http://www.fastrackautobody.com/auto...airs-painting/ |
As per Kalize's post, you need a structural integrity report/assessment performed by a certified shop. The one Kalize posted can and will do that for you in order for you to complete the importation process. All in all, you will need: 1. Provincial safety inspection 2. Structural Integrity Assessment 3. Federal Inspection (Paid for with your RIV fee) |
Thanks for the info guys. Just what I needed. Posted via RS Mobile |
its a pretty easy inspection to pass if it was rebuilt by a reputable shop then again, if it fails i hope you didn't pay too much for it(if thats the case, i know an awesome shop(clean/professional) they are rebuilding my is300) so i hope that the car has already been passed in usa and no longer a salvage |

The car has been through us inspection, so it should be ok to pass Canadian inspection fairly easy? Posted via RS Mobile |

hijacking this thread a bit... i have someone in sort of the same boat, but it's a local vehicle that is 1 year old with 1500kms on it. it was rear ended requiring $9700 in repairs and icbc wrote it off under it's new car replacement policy because no parts were available at the time because it was so new. regardless, it needed a frame pull and my friend would like to get it inspected... is this bodyshop that is mentioned above the only place that can do a structural inspection? |
