Working at J2

Does anyone work there or know what it's like to get in? I like getting shoes there, and I wanna work there(looks chill, would like discounts on the shoes), but I don't dress like the guys there. Was never into the whole honger thing with graphic tees and hats. I go for the diesel jeans+plain tshirt+plaid shirt look. Anyways I wanna there and wanted to know what the application process was and if I should go in or just apply online.

Apply in store you probably won't get in unless your a honger

work at AE if you're gonna dress with your current attire. If you want the part, you have to look the part and wear some clothing that remotely resembles what they sell. remember they're using you as marketting tools. They probably wouldn't like it if you wore stuff they didn't sell.

Think about it this way, would you fit in a GAP store when you're wearing all AE stuff? probably not. Let's put this even more clearly: if you work at Moores, a store that retails primarily to suits and business casual, do you think you're gonna get the job if you go to the job with jeans an a plain white T?

Minimum requirements at J2: at least one Stussy shirt.

Fuck j2 ...so overpriced..

@ MrGoodbar.

I feel you.

And I meet the minimum requirements. I actually have a Stussy shirt.

But do you guys really think that my style doesn't fit J2? I mean they sell what I wear there, like plaid shirts, Nike shoes, Diesels, it's just that I don't buy it from that store because they have a small selection and overpriced. I'll just give it a shot.

^^^

you really never know until you try. I say go for it. If you go for it at least you don't have the uncertainty of "what if".

Asking on here won't get you the job. Go apply and see if they call you back. You can end up spending your entire life wondering "what if?" and never get anything done because you don't want to set yourself up to fail. Go apply, you don't get it, well, you don't get it; simple.

i think its all through connections and friends

instantneedles 01-24-2011 05:40 PM

i was planning on applying there as well, just apply in store, they never check their emails. They hire mostly asians there, i've seen the occasional white guy but they're usually the type that wears the hypebeast stuff... the hongers i see there just wear that fob china shit, none of them actually rep the store's clothing... so basically i would say just dress stylish and try ur best to look overhyped, being asian definetly is an asset

getting a job there would be awesome, they dont do jack except go on facebook

Don't sweat it, it's a $9/hr job, just walk in with swag and you're good to go.

chin3se604 01-24-2011 06:20 PM

try applying in store and online... dosnt hurt to do both... but make sure you dont like a bum when you apply in store haha

JSALES 01-24-2011 06:37 PM

just go in and apply, i would rather work at the oakridge J2

PJ 01-24-2011 08:47 PM

My friend just went in and applied at Oakridge.. he got hired. (He's white.)
He's worked at many different retail places.. Club Monaco, Livestock.. etc. But he said J2 was the worst place he's ever worked for.
He hated it there. They ragged on him for not selling, they held his paycheques because he wasn't selling. I don't know if it was a racial thing, or if they're just terrible managers.

I think everyone in J2 are friends.. so if you're an outsider.. expect to be bossed around.

winson604 01-26-2011 01:34 PM

I can't speak from personal experience but I do know 3 people that all worked at J2 who eventually left and they always said that place was the worst place to work for. Due to the fact that I didn't give a shiet about whether J2 was a good place to work or not I didn't get into asking for details on how it sucked so take it for what it's worth. Funny enough one of them eventually went back but only because he was hurting for a job and knew he would get it back.

working with hongers is mostly a PITA, either they boss you around like mentioned above, or they dun do shit and make you do all the work. Even with their employee account it's still expensive as hell there. And since it's a $9/hr, y not work at bestbuy or something, sometimes they have some crazy deals

donthatethegame 02-06-2011 01:04 PM

thx for all the replies i didnt know there were so many. anyways my friend told me that the J2 at oakridge was closing is that true? i havent gotten the time to apply, but if i do itll be the metrotown one anyways, but i am already having second thoughts because you guys make it sound like a bad place to work. plus im not a honger, never hung out with one, and lived in north van all my life. maybe i shud just stick with my current job.

i dont mind doing a lot of work but im gonna be mad pissed if im working my a$$ off while everybody is chatting it up or fbing.

i doubt ud have to work your ass off. everytime i walk into the store i see the employees walk around, fold some clothes, and thats it. they dont even greet customers.

what's your current job if you dont mind me asking

gloors 02-06-2011 01:56 PM

Heard J2 employees dont get discounts, but yeah its a horrible place to work in.

If you like working in shops like J2, why not apply at ALIFE, Good Foot, Stussy, or Livestock in downtown?

donthatethegame 02-06-2011 02:01 PM

I work at time out source for sports. does j2 sell womens clothes as well?

theres also complex, which should be slightly easier to get hired than those mentioned... and yeah id much rather work at any of those stores over j2 given the opportunity.
