I <3 my ISP, but I hate its router.

So I'm on Telus, and I have their shitass 2wire gateway/router. I've already given my WRT54G to my girlfriend, so I'm routerless without this thing. I am now facing problems setting up a network with two Win7 machines (supposedly "easy", right?).

I have them both set up for the proper homegroup, and have all the settings right for sharing and everything else. They are both wired directly into the router (so no wireless bullshit). When it comes time to actually view the folder on the network, it says "Windows cannot access //xxxxxxxxxxxxxx" and gives an error number of 0x80070035

I checked on The Great Google, and it says it's a firewall conflict. Unfortunately, the 2wire firewall says it cannot be disabled unless put in "bridge mode" which (in my admittedly brief scanning) means all routing is disabled and it functions only as a modem and will not do any firewalling.

I need to network these two computers, and it's driving me fucking crazy! I hate this telus bullshit. Can anyone help me, or do I have to go back to Telus and get them to credit me a month's bills so I can get a new WRT54G?

The router isn't your problem... if you have 2 computers on the same network trying to talk to each other its all direct communication through a switch, which might be built into the router but none of the data is being 'routed'.

First thing, turn off the windows firewall's completely and try again.

find the ip address of computer A (start>run>cmd>ipconfig) then go to computer B and in the address bar of my computer put in \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx make sure its a back slash.

if you still get nothing, make sure you actually have file sharing enabled in control panel>network.

I don't know if its the same for Win7, but this is how I do it for all my computers running windows xp.

First I set them to the same workgroup. Which i normally just name "Home".

Then I go to each computer and set individual folder's sharing permissions by enabling "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network user to change files"

Then do the same to your other computers.

You should be able to see your other computers come up when you try to look for computers on the same workgroup
