Colour Calibration Tools

Any recommendations?

Cheapest of the bunch is the Huey Pro.

Then there's the X-Rite Eye-One Display 2.

Eye-ing the same two...

i first saw the huey pro at gastown photo for 89.99, but then the reviews for it were hit and miss

cheapest place i could find the display 2 was bhphoto, for 199

Pro might be enough. Senna, what are the reasons you recommend the Spyder?

just so you know, there is third party software out there that uses 1/2 dozen different types of "pucks". this software,ColorEyes looks awesome.

Do you need the features? Probably not, if you're just an amateur, but if you're making prints or are producing work to be printed or viewed on a professional website, then yes, I would say it's needed.

At work, the Spyder3 Elite outsells every other calibration units we have by a large margin. I'm not sure why, but it seems most pros go for it - I'm not the colour management specialist.

Here's a little article written by my co-worker, Mike who is our resident digital guru.

i calibrated my screen using a spyder pro, but i'm confused as to the color settings in PS and LR (where?)...

any insights?

I use the Huey PRO. At first I had issues with it leaving my screen pink, but it turns out there was a bad run. They shipped me a new one without question.

For the most part it's great, but it doesn't stay on the monitor too well when calibrating.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but I just picked up a U2410 and would like to calibrate it. I have a few options, and wanted to hear some opinions (as reviews online are mixed):

1. Buy a Spyder3Pro on BHPhoto for 155 (tax and shipping included) - 20MIR.
2. Buy a Spyder3Express on BHPhoto for 90 (again, tax and shipping included) + ColorEyes software for 175USD.

This essentially comes down to one software over another (as I've read multiple sources that the SP hardware are identical, with the software differing from Express to Elite). I am willing to pay the premium to get the better product. IIRC, the ColorEyes calibrates at the monitor-LUT level (which, if I understand correctly, calibrates the monitor hardware itself, bypassing the graphics card).

Anyone use ColorEyes? Anyone use both?

^^^ Why don't you buy local? With the current rebates, the prices are about the same - just a thought.

m3thods 12-12-2011 09:22 PM

Oh really?

I only looked at BH because London Drugs had it for 200+. I didn't bother calling any local photography stores.

What is Beau selling it for? Or any other place for that matter.

That 155 is total shipped to my door with everything included, but if I can buy it today that would be much better even at a bit of a premium.
